What do you think of these boys names?

Archie
Conor
Billy
Oscar
Leo

Managed to come up with a new shortlist between myself and DH. We don't have a lot of common ground when it comes to boys names so it's tough to narrow down.

What do you think of each of these names? Which are your favourite?

Thanks in advance!

They're all perfectly nice. I think the worst criticism I could give would be they're a bit boring/mainstream/popular.

I like Oscar best, Ozzy is a cute/cool nickname if he wants one at some point.

Less keen on the nicknamey ones; Archie and Billy.

Nicebloomers · 19/05/2024 16:12

Oscar and Leo are my favourites from your list

DuchessOfSausage · 19/05/2024 16:12

Archie - very popular but I'm not keen
Conor - nice but seems dated
Billy - like it if short for William. Will be Bill.
Oscar - very popular but I'm not keen
Leo - - very popular and I like it

Owl9to5 · 19/05/2024 16:12

They are all OK.

Leo is the best.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 19/05/2024 16:54

I like Billy but would probably put William on the birth certificate.

Also like Leo and oscar

NetMum2 · 19/05/2024 17:04

Archie - not a fan. I know it’s a name in its own right, but I really don’t like the longer Archibald!
Conor - not keen. Plus I think it’s a different style to the other names on your list
Billy - love William nn Billy!
Oscar - really like it
Leo - like it

GoodVibesHere · 19/05/2024 17:11

I don't like Archie at all. Billy is nice.

PitterPatter3 · 19/05/2024 17:13

Oscar and Leo are my favourites too.

ginasevern · 19/05/2024 17:23

There's been an explosion of Archies since H & M named theirs so it's really common and is beginning to look pretty low rent.

There are also loads of Leos. Out of all of them Oscar is the most original and is actually quite nice.

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/05/2024 17:39

A lovely list - I actually don’t think you can go too far wrong with any of these!

I would personally pick Billy as short for William - a great classic that isn’t too overused and gives great options for when he’s older too.

Oscar and Leo are lovely too - slightly trendier and more popular at the moment but fantastic names.

Archie is nice too - I don’t normally go for shortened versions as full names, but I think this one works well.

Conor is also quite nice and has the advantage of being much less commonly used at present.

Good luck choosing!

muddyford · 19/05/2024 17:49

Oscar and Leo, though they do sound like golden retrievers. The rest are a bit meh.

KnitnNatterAuntie · 19/05/2024 17:55

Archie ~ really like it
Conor ~ not keen
Billy ~ much prefer William
Oscar ~ nice name
Leo ~ nice name

BoleynMemories13 · 19/05/2024 18:37

Billy is nice as a nn for William but too infantile as a stand alone name.

Leo and Oscar are nice, although both are incredibly popular (not sure whether that would bother you or not?).

I dislike Archie and Conor.

If popularity isn't an issue, I'd go for Leo.

shoopshoopdedoo · 19/05/2024 22:51

Love Leo and Oscar. Quite like Billy as a nickname for William. Less keen on Conor and dislike Archie.

Mumofgirls2017 · 20/05/2024 08:09

Archie- it’s cute but may date and v popular
Conor- i associate with naughty-boy name for some reason
Billy- it’s a bit wet? Prefer as nn for William
Oscar- soooo many I find it boring. And maybe bit wet too
Leo- as popular as it is I do love it.

TM1979 · 20/05/2024 08:18

Conor all day long. Such a strong name and suits no matter what age. I love it.

pinkmags · 20/05/2024 08:44

They're all very popular and overused imo and so may start to sound dated soon.

Have you looked at all the lovely names outside the top 100?

user1492757084 · 20/05/2024 11:39

All of the names are fine.

My favourites are
Oscar
William
Leo

Others ..
Cedric
Otto
Leon
Desmond

AliceMcK · 20/05/2024 12:00

Archie - my grandads name (Archibald) he hated it and changed it, but I don’t mind it.
Conor - good Irish name, know a few
Billy - makes me think of Connelly and the naughty boy in my DDs class.
Oscar - know a few, not my favourite but ok.
Leo - very common around here, at least a dozen in DDs school over the last few years.

Cottontop299 · 20/05/2024 15:17

Archie and Oscar are my favourites.
personally do not think Archie will
date as it is actually an old name. My oldest living relative is Archie and he’s just Archie on the bc!

SunniestOfSundays · 20/05/2024 15:34

Archie - like this one.
Conor - not really a fan, feels dated.
Billy - this one’s okay, but as other posters have said, I prefer William.
Oscar - this one’s okay too.
Leo - my favourite of the 5.

Fontainebleau007 · 20/05/2024 15:35

I think they're lovely names

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 20/05/2024 15:35

Archie - ok
Conor - really like this
Billy - prefer William
Oscar - meh - Oscar is a cat IMO
Leo - ok, 2nd preference on your list
