Remy Rupert Thomas - thoughts on this name?

I’m thinking he will probably get Remy Roo a lot as a baby/child but I think calling him Remy Rue on the birth certificate wouldn’t age well, so Rupert works for when he’s grown up.

Just as a side note, I know a lot of people say middle names don’t get used - for some reason in our family we are referred to by our first and middle names quite often (even as adults!)

Personally, I don't like the name Remy because back in my day at school (70's/80's) some kids called other people remi as a derogatory term. Assume short for remedial?
Might not be an issue these days though.

I’ve personally never heard of it used as a derogatory term (school in the 00’s) but thank you for making me aware. To be honest every name I have suggested on here I’ve been told not to use because it is negative in some way!

I'm not keen on the name Remy.

I don't like Rupert. I think it's the wettest name in existence, fine as an embarrassing middle name that never gets used but not if it's likely to be used frequently.

Remy Rupert sounds absolutely terrible together. It sounds like Remy is a word for Grandfather/Uncle and his name is Rupert.

Not sure if Thomas is a second middle name or surname, but I'd say Remy Thomas flows much better, chuck Rupert in as a second middle name if you need to.

I personally find Thomas an incredibly boring name, it’s just one that we have to use hence the second middle spot. I know I’m in the minority saying Thomas is boring, it just seems like every man and his dog are called Thomas or have it somewhere in their name.

Rem was a derogatory term in my schooldays.
Your baby will be a man for much longer than he's a baby and toddler.
Remy Roo/Rue is awful.

I did literally say in my post that wouldn’t age well, hence looking for the alternative…

You literally said you were going to call him Remy Rue but have Remy Rupert Thomas on the BC.

Edited because the word literally hardly ever needs to be used and usually detracts rather than enhances.

I said he would probably get Remy Roo as a child, as in the nickname would be inevitable. Not that I would refer to him as that as a grown adult.

It was also used in my school!

I haven’t come on here for a grammar lesson, thank you.

Very interesting! I’m sure my MIL and FIL will have heard it as well then, so would imagine it’s not a name that will go down well with family. Thank you for letting me know!

Sorry OP but I really dislike your choices. Remy is awful...Rupert is (like a previous PP said) the wettest name ever, on a par with Malcom. And calling your child 'Remy Roo' is just bloody cruel!! Why the hell would you do that!! Poor lad will get mullered at school if anyone hears you calling him sodding Remy Roo!! 🤦‍♀️

Please don't!

hattylou · 18/05/2024 10:43

Really don't like Remy.
Rupert is going through a bit of a popular phase round me currently.
I have come across 6 in last year through work.

I don’t think referring to a toddler as Remy Roo would be particularly offensive, but again appreciate the feedback!

I’m not particularly attached to the name, it was just another one to consider so thought I’d get some opinions.

Given the reaction I’ve had to all the other names I like (Jonah, Bobby, Sonny to name a few) clearly I’m just a cruel mum who’s going to give their child an awful name 😂

Remy is one of my husbands favourites, we don’t have any that we agree on completely but it is one I could compromise on!

Rupert is fairly popular near me as well, we have one already in the friend group but figured it would be acceptable to use as a middle spot if we wanted.

Sorry, your post 'sounded' like 'Read the effin' OP!' Smile

Remy's fine if you like it and you can call him what you like. Rupert and Thomas are ok. I like Thomas, Tommy and Tom.

Bobby is nice. Jonah is OK. Sonny too nicknamey IMO.

Oh no I totally agree re. Thomas. It's just that Rupert is so awful that Thomas would be better. Honestly, I'd chuck all these names in the bin and start again!

Owl9to5 · 18/05/2024 10:52

Remy sounds like a girls name to me. Prefer Romy mind you. Rupert is ludicrous. Sorry. It sounds like a parody of a British middle class name. Terrible.

What about Leonard Rueben , Lenny roo.
Less babyish-pompous

All personal taste obviously

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 18/05/2024 10:54

I think Remy is ok.
Don't call him Remy Rue it sounds a bit ridiculous.
Why 2 middle names?
I think one is enough.
I’ve heard worse names and better names.
Be prepared for it to be mis-spelt but if you can cope with that then use it.

TeaPleaseX · 18/05/2024 10:54

Interested to know the age groups saying about the name Remi. As I left school in 2010 and had many classmates called Remi and never ever heard of that name being used in a bad way? I'm having a girl and gone with Romy. I love it.

Needmorelego · 18/05/2024 10:57

I would have thought Remy is a girls name to be honest.

2chocolateoranges · 18/05/2024 11:03

The Remy I know is a girl and Rupert is just so quirky, I’m not a fan of it.

Riverlee · 18/05/2024 11:06

I think it’s a lovely name.

Never heard of Remy used for remedial (and is the term remedial used in schools anymore? ).

Neverpostagain · 18/05/2024 11:13

I like Remi, but not so much Rupert, I personally would use Reuben. I actually quite like Remi Roo. But this is from a woman who called her son Gorgie Bub and still does 29 years later! If you look like Jason Momoa, no-one gives a shit what your mum calls you!

Mairzydotes · 18/05/2024 11:15

I think Rupert Remy flows better. Similar to Rupert Penry Jones

I knew a Rupert , my age . Nobody ever forgot his name.
