Initials

Our newborns Sons name starts with a B, his middle name will be one of two names

  1. Starts with a J… so initials will be BJ
  2. An obscure name from another culture

Both names will honour the same relative which is important to me.

I don’t know if I can get past the initials BJ although they are only 1st and middle initials.

Am I overthinking this?

Of course I could just use the more unusual name but the J name is much more classic

Nobody uses middle names, except for when you’re filling in a form. BJ will only be a problem if he tells someone his middle name at school.

I had this! My son's name starts with a B and his middle name was going to be James. I couldn't stop thinking about the initials. In the end I gave him two middle names (one infront of James) so B A J.

I am a massive over-thinker, even though I am sure he will get through life fine, the what if’s bother me.

I am considering two middle names but our older children only have one, and DH thinks having two middles makes the name too long

Hmmm. I'm going to be honest - I know two men with initials B. J. And both were called BJ throughout school and university, and one still is as an adult (late 30s). I would try to add another name before the J.

Fontainebleau007 · 16/05/2024 15:54

I know what you mean. My other son has one middle name, but then I have two myself, I have quite long names as well. 😄 theyre never used apart from on things formally.
If you think you won't be able to get over the initials then I would personally just go with the other name, if you don't want two middle names. Otherwise you might regret your decision or it will keep playing on your mind. X

I would personally avoid BJ as he might have a work email with initials later as well as any teenage banter issues

NetMum2 · 16/05/2024 18:15

I would avoid the initials BJ too. Maybe add another middle name in like a previous poster mentioned?

How old are your children? Has it ever been an issue?

I'd swap the names around so initials JB but child always known by B name.
