Can Raffy be a standalone name or is it just a nickname? I don’t like Rafferty and not the biggest fan of Rafe, but I do like Raffy.

Could also be a shortened form of Rafael/Raphael. Don't think it works as a stand alone name.

It’s a cute nickname. As a stand alone it reminds me of a name that you’d call a pet

I don’t see it as a standalone name. I like it as short for Rafael. Or possibly it could be short for Ralph?

cherryassam · 13/05/2024 23:09

I know a Raphael called Raffy too

NetMum2 · 14/05/2024 11:04

I love the name Raphael nn Rafi.
Raffy as a standalone name is a no from me, sorry.

pinkmags · 14/05/2024 17:42

Sorry but Raffy is awful and sounds like Riffy Raffy or Riff Raff

TheChosenTwo · 14/05/2024 17:43

I know a Raffi (Rafael) and call him riff raff @pinkmags which is entertaining because he’s quite posh 😂

menopausalmare · 14/05/2024 18:00

I can't imagine a man about to give a presentation introducing himself as Raffy.

timoteigirl · 14/05/2024 21:48

Sorry but it sounds like a pet name. Rafi?

SpaghettiHat · 14/05/2024 21:58

I have a teenage Rafferty, who goes by Raff. He only uses Rafferty for official (eg school/medical forms) things.

We used to call him Raffy when he was little, but he very much sees that as a baby name now and is furious when people use it (Grandma!)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/05/2024 23:07

Sorry, I know cute diminutives as given names are popular now ( see Alfie, Ellie and a million similar others) but I personally still struggle to visualise them on an (serious) older person . Raffi is a cute nn for Raphael though- which is perfectly useable, just not as popular as similar Michael and Gabriel in the UK ( and much nicer than Rafferty or Rafe imo).

Rafael is better
