Hi everyone

In discussion at moment about the name Charlotte. One of my friends thinks a nickname would be Lotte but I was sure it was Lottie.

Can anyone confirm are they both nicknames or is one spelled incorrectly?

Thank you!

Both can be nicknames. Lotte pronounce Lotta is more used in other countries though. Charlie will also get used.

I know a Lottie, a Lotta (Danish), Char and a Charlie. Take your pick!

I know a Lottie and plenty of Charlies . I haven’t met a Lotte personally

caringcarer · 11/05/2024 09:23

Charlie or Lottie are common I think.

Lotte (pronounced lotta) is used a lot in the Netherlands, often a name on its own whilst Lottie is more popular in uk

Charl (sharl)

Thank you so much everyone. I genuinely didn't realise Lotte was a proper name, and now I know better, happy to learn 😊

I knew a Lotte (as others have said pronounced Lotta), I didn’t know whether she was a Charlotte or just Lotte.

I think Lotte or Lottie could be short for Charlotte so you could use which one you prefer!

SleepingStandingUp · 11/05/2024 12:01

Lottie, Lotte, Charlie, Charl (sharl), Charly (sharly), Char (shar)

Needanewjobsoon · 11/05/2024 12:05

In my daughters year there's a Charlie a Lotte and 2 are Charlottes which don't get shortened.

Needanewjobsoon · 11/05/2024 12:06

None of them get Sharl or Char!! (girls school!)
