Boy Names - help?!

Did you wait till your baby boy arrived before you named him or did you have a name set before he came? With my daughter we had a name from early in pregnancy, and I was so excited to tell people. With baby boy we don’t have a set name and I’m really struggling to find one I love.

Im due really soon, so I’m starting to think we won’t settle on one before he comes but it’s making me feel really unprepared. If you waited till your son arrived, did something just feel right when you saw him? I’m panicking that he will arrive and we still won’t be able to name him.

Also, name suggestions are hugely appreciated! I like Ezra, Milo, Bobby, Sonny, Joey, Jonah, Tommy, Ralphie, Asher, Ashby, Marley, Toby but I’m not in love with any of them. I’m worried about them being underwhelming compared to my daughters name which is much less common, but feel like boys names are so much harder. A lot of them that are more unusual aren’t wearable for all ages. One of those names could be used if we can find a middle name that maybe makes it feel a bit more unusual, but also struggling with middle spots. We did want to use the middle spot to honour a friend who passed away, so originally planned to use Tom/Tommy/Thomas as a middle spot but obviously that doesn’t fit the unusual category.

Thanks so much in advance!

We had the names completely planned for 2 of my 3 kids, but had two in mind for my third as nothing stood out. I still think about the other name 10 years on and wonder if that would have suited her more! I personally think you at least need 2-3 names that you know you like enough to be happy using before he’s born, even if you make the final decision afterwards.

I like Toby, Tommy, Asher, Joey and Ralphie from your list :)

The names you have posted are mostly lovely. Ezra, Asher and Marley would be my favourites. I think Asher is probably the least common of these, at least where I am.

I think it’s OK to wait until baby is here and I agree boys names are harder because with girls you have lots of nature names to pick like Daisy Poppy etc

From your list I like best Jonah and Toby

you could have Tobias if you wanted a name that could be adapted to all ages and Tony for short . I think Jonah works best as he could be Jonah, Joe, Joey, Jay or J and middle initial like JM, JT, JK

My eldest was nameless for three days. Had it narrowed down to two options before he was born and then couldn’t pick one (husband and I each had a different presence).

Youngest was sort of nameless for two weeks. Didn’t find out the sex and husband said it was a waste of time to discuss names as we would be discussing potentials for the wrong sex 🙈. We announced a name to close family after about 9 days but it never felt right as soon as we’d revealed it, so changed it a few days later.

Clearly we’ve learnt nothing because baby 3 is due soon and, although we have a girls name lined up, we have NOTHING for a boy. 😬

I love Thomas, nn Tom/Tommy from your list!

This is an old thread... and he's probably been named by now!

What a shame. OP missed out on calling her son Jericho.

@JustCuttinAboot, why did you post on an old thread?
