DH and I are talking about names, we are pretty much decided on one, but DH vetoed a lot of names as he couldn't imagine them on a brunette/blonde

So what names do you strongly associate with blondes/brunettes/red heads?
Girl or Boy?

Heidi

Edenmum2 · 07/05/2024 20:31

I don't understand, how do you know what colour hair your baby will have?

Absolutely bizarre to even take this into consideration when choosing a name

Jentefieldroamer · 07/05/2024 20:31

Heidi, although have a Guyanese friend called Heidi.

We don't, which why DH wants to avoid names he strongly associates with one hair colour.

I totally get this, I always think of Anna and Amy as blonde, Hannah too, Harriet as red haired but that's because I think it might mean that?

AnotherLauraPerson · 07/05/2024 20:34

I don’t think I’ve ever associated a name with hair colour.

LoubyLou92 · 07/05/2024 20:35

When we chose my daughters name I had it stuck in my head that she’d come out with thick dark hair (like me) and was convinced she would only suit that name if that’s what she looked like. She came out with bleached blonde hair and we still used the same name.

I would imagine that when they arrive the hair colour really won’t make a difference.

Blond - Isabelle, Imogen, Sophia, Katie, Emily, stacey, Amelia, Olivia, Hattie, Ottilie, Matilda, felicity, Oliver, max, Sebastian
Brunette- mila, Isabella, carmella, Romilda (names ending in -a, I guess more Spanish?)
Red head - Demelza, clementine, Rosie, Rosa, rudy, Rupert, Jessica, josie

Fionn, Finn, or Finbar because it literally means light-haired. Likewise Niamh, because of Niamh Cinn Óir.

Jentefieldroamer · 07/05/2024 20:37

Debbie (Harry, does Dallas)

amy is definitely blond but for me Hannah has dark hair. The posh horsey names are always blond for me too 🤣

foxychox · 07/05/2024 20:40

Boris

NarnianQueen · 07/05/2024 20:41

Isn't the only relevant question here what your husband thinks of as a blonde or brunette name? Because of you ask the general population it's going to be massively subjective!

ReallyUAreAnElegantChap · 07/05/2024 20:41

Isnt this more to do with people you have known with a particular hair colour? Including famous people

QueSyrahSyrah · 07/05/2024 20:41

Rowan I suppose because it means 'little red-head' but that's the extent of it. I can think of more Rowan's without red hair than with though.

MissingMoominMamma · 07/05/2024 20:42

Blonde-Daisy.

MalibuBarbieDreamHouse · 07/05/2024 20:45

Every person you speak to is going to have different associations with hair colour for names. I’ve just read other posts and see different hair colours for the names! I think the only exception is names which mean certain colours.

Also hair colour changes massively- I’m blonde in a family of dark haired, but as a baby my hair was jet black! My first babe was bald, there was no determining her hair colour!

Runnerduck34 · 07/05/2024 20:45

I think associating a name with a hair color is a but odd. And tbf babies and young children often change hair colour I.e born with dark hair , go blonde as a young child , then as they get older turn brunette. I don't associate any name with a hair colour.
Possibly at a push barbie= blonde
Hazel= brunette but that's it.

Debbie (Harry, does Dallas)

I can confirm I'm a Debbie and I got nicknamed blondie after Debbie Harry as a toddler.

I also got the Debbie does joke a lot. Mostly Debbie does Doncaster (my hometown)

Do not recommend

hattylou · 07/05/2024 20:50

Red hair= Ruby, Scarlett, Poppy, Rosey
Rupert, Henry, Rufus, Angus , Russell, jasper

Blonde= Heidi, Ingrid, Nola
Finley

As most of world is actually dark I don't really have any associations. All names seem ok.
It really the more striking red hair that somehow stands out as needing a matching name.

Vettrianofan · 07/05/2024 20:50

Blonde - Brad

menopausalmare · 07/05/2024 20:56

Kimberley is a blonde name.

Isitisit · 07/05/2024 20:58

As a brunette Amy, I’m now considering whether my hair needs dyeing 😂
