DH and I are talking about names, we are pretty much decided on one, but DH vetoed a lot of names as he couldn't imagine them on a brunette/blonde

So what names do you strongly associate with blondes/brunettes/red heads?
Girl or Boy?

Its so funny how people's own experiences colour their perception/imagination!

Red head - Demelza
A Demelza would always be black haired to me, like in the books!

I don't associate names with hair color. Weird!

If someone asked you to imagine someone called Sarah though, for example, wouldn't that person have a hair colour?

Notreat · 08/05/2024 11:48

I don't think any name is associated with a particular hair colour.
Besides you won't necessarily know what colour hair your child will have as they grow. Hair colour often changes as someone ages. The hair colour someone has as a baby, child, adult is often vwey different.

Notreat · 08/05/2024 11:50

I know two Anna's and they both have very dark hair! And an Amy with brown hair.

This was in response to the PP who said Anna's and Amy's were blonde names

Sure. One of my best friends is a Sarah and her hair is black. My other Sara is a brunette.

Depending on who you know it'll change the context. Also depending on your race and the race of the people around you.

I know three Anna's and they all have dark hair. None of them white.

One white blond Anne I went to school with.

And the only Aimee I know is Kim Kardashian.

Red head - Tia, Clemmie, Sally, Dawn, Shelley, Felicity, Nola, Natasha, Francesca, Harriet, Phoebe.

Phoebe Buffay is the only Phoebe I know.

Also Buffy as in Buffy Summers.

So those two might be the only "blond names" names to me.

motherbear43 · 08/05/2024 12:09

Sharon.

Probably eastenders related.

miniaturepixieonacid · 08/05/2024 12:12

Very few, tbh

Blonde - Barbie, Cindy
Brunette - Ebony

That's about it, I think.

Teamarugula · 08/05/2024 12:16

I can imagine pretty much all names on any appearance. No one is going to meet eg a dark haired Heidi and go ‘oh you should have been blonde’. It’s a silly reason to not pick a name - is DH maybe just struggling to envision the baby when it’s here?

sashh · 09/05/2024 08:29

I find it odd that Heidi is seen as blond. In the book she has brown hair.

Hotchocolateand5marshmellows · 09/05/2024 09:26

I absolutely understand this.

Blonde- Anna/Annabel, Ashley (ash blonde), Elsa/Elsie (possibly due to frozen) Leo (lion)

For some reason Charlotte is a brunette name for me, also Rebecca and Peter.

Siobhan is a redhead.

Chloe is a blonde name

Jess is a brunette name

OctaviaRedQueen · 09/05/2024 12:07

Completely get this - I imagine colours for days of the week as well and its called synesthesia.

Blonde names to me are: Ashley, Jessica, Freya, Elsa, Heidi, Aurelia, Xanthe, Sarah, Aurora, Chloe, Penelope, Juliet, Emma, Arabella, Hannah.

seven201 · 09/05/2024 12:09

Blonde- Alice
Red-Audrey
Brunette- Helen
No idea why

The Demelza who I went to primary school with was blonde

To pull off the name Chloe you have to be cute and popular

Off. Not of.

Marcipex · 13/05/2024 15:52

Blonde- Tara, Honey, Rowan, Amy, Annabel, Lowenna, Bertha.
Brunette- Harriet, Ivy, Lois, Poppy, Lauren.
Redhead- Anne, Autumn, Dahlia, Tamara.

MirandaBlu · 13/05/2024 15:56

The only ones I can think of are Flavia and Xanthe, because both allegedly derive from a specific reference to yellow hair or golden hair.

Theoldwoman · 15/05/2024 14:13

Felicity
Ella
Zoe

Angus
Will
Benjamin
