Everyone hates my baby names!

I'm really struggling to find a name for our baby boy that my partner also likes. I steamrolled him with it last time as I found all his suggestions ridiculous and our first son is called Max, much to his disdain.

There are two names we both agree on, not my favourites but I really want one we've both chosen this time:

Sonny & Reid

I've googled these, looked at mumsnet and Reddit and it seems everyone thinks they're awful names.

Names I like which husband has said absolutely not to:

Samson (a compromise on Sonny, use Sonny as a nickname and have this on bc so he can go by Sam when he's older if he finds Sonny childish)
Luca
Rory
Charlie

Husband leans towards more American names which I'm not massively a fan of.

Any suggestions? Are the ones we agree on really that awful? Idek I'm getting so stressed with it as I'm feeling like a lot of his suggestions are just ridiculous.

Max and Hudson
Max and Rhett
Max and Dexter
Max and Holden
Max and Colton

ExcellentCat · 03/05/2024 19:56

Corrie
connor
Rocco
Ellis
Forrest
Daryl

PiggieWig · 03/05/2024 20:00

Your names are way nicer!

Of the agreed names, Sonny is… ok? Not a fan of Reid I’m afraid.

My suggestions on the theme would be:

Sawyer
Hudson
Joel
Toby
Ethan
Jody
Ethan
Harley

OliveTheaBough · 03/05/2024 20:02

Jenson is great, in my opinion and gives you the nickname Sonny

VeraForever · 03/05/2024 20:03

Sonny is a nickname and Reid is a surname.

Travellingraspberry · 03/05/2024 20:05

What about Emerson. Quite American sounding but can have Sonny as a nickname.

InTheRainOnATrain · 03/05/2024 20:15

What about Patrick or Tom if he’s into American football?! And those are nice normal names! We lived in the US until recently and contrary to popular belief the boys in DD’s daycare class all had traditional names- John, Martin, Brian, Sam, Joseph. Plus also a Mason but he was the class biter so the less said about him the better.

From your DH’s list I could probably live with Jenson, and Sonny could be a nick name. Robin is also alright, I think you mostly hear it on girls these days but it could always be shortened to Rob. Austin is ok too, I don’t love place names but at least it’s a nice enough place, not like when people name their kids Indiana.

Slightly off topic but I used to work with an American guy called Randy. Surname was Queen.
Hard to keep a straight face when he first introduced himself - “Hi, I’m Randy Queen”

You have to be joking?

Needanewname42 · 03/05/2024 20:26

Robin is OK, or Robert would also give you options on nicknames, I was in school with two Roberts, known as Bobby, as adults both seem to have reverted to Bob or Rob.
Robert also gives options like Rab and Bert.

Gotabadfeelingaboutthis · 03/05/2024 20:33

If you like Sonny, and he likes American names, what about something like Jackson with Sonny as a nickname?

Aquamarine1029 · 03/05/2024 20:34

Max and Jameson. Jamie or Sonny as a nn.

StripeyDeckchair · 03/05/2024 20:36

Sonny & Junior are both awful names
They basically say "we can't be bothered to come up with a proper name for our child so this will do"

Anything along the Maverick or Princess line is asking for problems - he'll be the most conventional bloke ever & she'll be a bitch.

DinoNuggetsRUs · 03/05/2024 15:41

In reply to the older comment - yes I know I need to take his opinion into consideration this time, I'm really trying to be positive but we have such different taste it's crazy

So baby names he's suggested so far

Austin
Maverick
Wyatt
Jenson
Bryson
Junior
Colson

Oh my god, those names are awful! I see what you mean about him favouring American names!

Georgie4509 · 03/05/2024 20:40

I personally do not like American names. I love Charlie. If you chose your first son's name maybe let your husband decide this time?

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 03/05/2024 20:43

Sonny and Reid are awful, sorry. I like Rory, Luca and Charlie. Love the name Max!

portaide · 03/05/2024 20:45

Sorry but yes they're awful, Sonny particularly so. Reid I could live with a huge push. What about:

Logan
Broderick (Brodie)
Luke
Cody

He sounds like he's more trying to name a dog.

This is making me reconsider Robin - I did like it at the time but didn't like the nickname Rob, but think Bobby is quite cute.

What we thinking all? Robin? I want this over and done with Grin

I really like Robin for a boy. Definitely the best out of all the suggestions. Number 130 for boys in England at the moment, so popular enough to be accepted and known but not common enough for there to be multiple in a year.

DaisyDonaldDucks · 03/05/2024 21:00

Robin is great. Max and Robin. Lovely!

Have you seen his suggestions? She can't risk that!

DH came up with a list for one of ours. I really, really wish I had kept it because I pissed myself laughing. The only one I remember was 'Wilhelmina'"!!!!!!!!!!!

Settlement22 · 03/05/2024 21:11

I won't comment on yout names as I think names should be a personal choice between the parents.
Some others that have not been mentioned that I have noticed:
Jed
Cole
Tor
Rafe
Tom
Xander
Jake

MerryChristmasToYou · 03/05/2024 21:14

@Runnerinthenight , what's wrong with Wilhelmina? I know one and everyone calls her Billie.

It's an old lady name to me, and I don't like Billie!

FlutteryButterfly · 03/05/2024 21:21

I'm going to throw in- Quinn

Ive just looked at this list of American Wrestlers and here’s a list.
Greg,Evan,John,Kevin and Pat

😂😂

I was going to say that American men ime often have religious or Irish names - lots of Michael’s and Patrick’s. The girls names were more unusual and imaginative.

Any of those would do and not in fashion at present so unusual

WWE Top 100 Superstars: The Ultimate List

In the seven previous Top 10 lists I created, you could see the 70 best wrestlers ranked according to their prominent wrestling style. Now, it's time to complete the whole series with the Top 100 WWE greatest superstars...
