Hi

Are Ellie and Emily too similar as names? Not as siblings, but mother and child 🙈 due my baby soon and this literally didn't occur to me until today!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Might get annoying when people call either of your names?

I know a Linda who has a son Linden, and can never quite get my head around that!

Noonecaresifyounamechange · 03/05/2024 15:03

Both lovely names!

I don’t think too similar…plus who doesn’t know a father & son with the exact same name!

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/05/2024 15:07

No not too similar at all! I have a similar level of similarity to my daughter’s name and I didn’t notice until a few years after she was born!!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/05/2024 15:23

Fine for mother and child. I mean traditionally mum and daughter would often have had the exact same name so a similarity is definitely no big deal. Plus you will be “Mum” instead or Ellie/ Emily 90%of the time from now on anyway🤣

Only for sisters might it be a bit close - you don’t want any excuses that they thought you were calling their sibling instead!

Fine as mum and baby

KnickerlessParsons · 03/05/2024 16:34

I know an Emma and an Emily. And a Gemma and an Emma.
Go for it!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 03/05/2024 19:16

too close for siblings but fine for mum and daughter

SabreIsMyFave · 03/05/2024 19:21

Nope that's fine! I used to know a family with 3 sons called John, Jordan, and Josh. (all beginning with Jo.) Also knew once of a family with 6 children - all with names beginning with the letter K. And even one family I knew around 30 years back, had a Linda, and a Lynette! So 2 'Lyns.' (Sisters!) (Lynette ended up telling people to call her Nettie.)

MerryChristmasToYou · 03/05/2024 19:29

A bit alike but not too much.

Embf · 03/05/2024 20:10

Thanks so much for the reassurance! I'm due any day now so the panic of having to find a new name is the last thing I needed. It just came to me out of nowhere - My husband thought I was being ridiculous! I had put so much thought into a name that sounds ok with her sister's that I completely forgot about my own name 🤣

It’s fine! Especially considering how many boys are literally named after their father. Good luck!

portaide · 03/05/2024 20:43

It's not fine and you'll have the first initial plus surname. What about Elodie?
