Stuck with a list

We are expecting a little girl in a couple of months and currently live outside of our homeland. We are Russian, however hopefully we will be back by the time she is due, as we are only out of the country for a work contract.
We have a list of names and we are struggling in case she is actually born outside of Russia. We live in the UK at the moment, so pronunciation might be an issue.

Aleksandra
Anastasia
Ekaterina
Irina
Maria
Tatiana
Xenia

Irina is my top name, however my husband does not mind. I like it a lot, however I am worried I might regret it if she ends up being my only girl, as I like all the names on our list. I have a lot of girl names saved from earlier times, I did not expect 5 boys. She is our first girl, and I like far more girls names than I do boys so it is hard.

Her siblings are Vladimir, Nikolai, Anton, Mikhail and Kirill.

Absolutely love both Anastasia and Tatiana! No pronunciation issues either and they will travel well wherever she decides to go in the world

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/05/2024 20:37

I love Irina - my favourite from your list.

I also like Anastasia, Maria and Aleksandra.

Xenia, Ekaterina and Tatiana are less to my taste.

VincentVanGoth · 01/05/2024 21:51

Irina is my favourite from your list, followed closely by Maria.

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/05/2024 22:06

Anastasia or Maria ❤️

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 01/05/2024 22:59

Anastasia, aleksandra or Maria and none will have pronounciation issues ( although people will assume Alexandra spelling if in uk)

katebushh · 01/05/2024 23:09

I like Irina.

yikesanotherbooboo · 01/05/2024 23:23

All nice and no significant pronunciation problems. Irina is my favourite.

margegunderson · 01/05/2024 23:29

I like Ekatarina but they're all so much better than the usual mumsnet baby names. Maybe give her two of them?

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 01/05/2024 23:32

I knew a wonderful aristocratic Irina escaped during the 1917 revolution. Wonderful woman.

bridgetreilly · 02/05/2024 00:55

Irina Xenia.

Theoldwoman · 02/05/2024 02:39

Irina !

FangsForTheMemory · 02/05/2024 04:08

Am I right in thinking you only give children one first name in Russia? I would choose Tatiana from your list. A lovely name.

Yes! First name, patronymic and then last.

For example, if she was Tatiana, she would be Tatiana Aleksandrovna Medvedeva. My son Nikolai for example, would be Nikolai Aleksandrovich Medevedev. (Not my children’s actual patronymic or last!!)

I like all the names except for Xenia (I’m Greek) and it’s never pronounced properly imo in the U.K. My favourite is probably Tatiana.

pilates · 02/05/2024 05:57

Anastasia

WildCherryBlossom · 02/05/2024 11:39

They are all beautiful. The only one that might cause pronunciation confusion would be Xenia.

Alekssndra and Ekaterania could be mid-spelt.

All the others are fairly well known and understood in the UK I think. Maria is beautiful and underused in the UK (but overused in other countries so that might be worth thinking about if you could potentially live in somewhere like Spain or Latin America at a later date)

I think my favourites are Irina, Anastasia and Tatiana.

Choose your favourite.
They are all lovely.

My faves are Ekaterina, Anastasia and Irina.

IamaRevenant · 02/05/2024 13:13

I like them all!

I would go for Ekaterina or Anastasia.

My least favourite would probably be Xenia.

olga3860 · 02/05/2024 18:43

Yes, I understand! Xenia might be hard to pronounce here. I will take it off the list!)

Amdone123 · 02/05/2024 18:51

They're all beautiful but yes, I thought that about Xenia. I still like it though.
Irina is lovely.

Jegersur · 02/05/2024 18:54

No one will pronounce Anastasia correctly in the UK

olga3860 · 03/05/2024 00:13

I understand! Maybe Anastasia wouldn’t be a good choice then. It is difficult trying to find a name that works both here and at home!)

Anastasia will have pronunciation issues everywhere you go.

It will be Anna-STAY-zha, Anna-stas-EE-ah, Anna-STASS-ee-ah...

Xenia will have problems too - I'd opt for Ksenia.

I like Tatiana, Irina, Maria, and Aleksandra because of their ease of pronunciation.

Maria is gorgeous, so classic, and known everywhere.

mathanxiety · 03/05/2024 00:20

Ekaterina would be lovely too.

miniaturepixieonacid · 03/05/2024 00:48

All beautiful - I love Russian names. It's a shame you can't use two or three of them.

My order of preference would be: Aleksandra, Ekaterina, Xenia, Anastasia, Irina, Tatiania, Maria. But they're all lovely.
