Narrowed down our boys list and we have chosen one, but I’m just wanting to get peoples general opinions of the name.

I’m concerned the name we’ve chosen might be seen as “too traditional” or boring compared to his older sisters names - for reference, neither of theirs are in the top 300. I’m not going to say their names as I don’t want comments on their names, they tend to be names that people love or hate. However I will say they both end in an ie/y sound and are two syllables.

Please vote for your favourites and share any thoughts you have on the names. These were all the ones we had shortlisted.

Voted Arley! Absolutely lovely name x

ThisElatedQuail · 30/04/2024 20:27

Is the name on this list out of curiosity?
if it’s Jonah then that is a beautiful name I have a friend with a Jonah - middle child her older and younger children both have more quirky names
I don’t see Jonah as too popular at all it’s very classic but not a name you hear constantly x

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 30/04/2024 20:33

Toby, Remy, and Arley would be too matchy with his sisters if they already have an ‘ee’ ending IMHO.

MidnightPatrol · 30/04/2024 20:47

I fear with Arley, people are always going to think they’ve misheard it and haven’t caught the first letter…

SkaneTos · 30/04/2024 21:25

They are all good names! I voted for Toby.

NightPuffins · 30/04/2024 21:50

I might be missing something, but what are the names to choose from?

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/04/2024 21:55

Toby is my favourite by far - a lovely, relatively underused classic.

Jonah would come second - another underused classic, if you overlook the slight bad luck connotations.

Milo and Ezra are both trendier and less classic feeling (to me) but I do quite like them

Arley and Remy sound a bit unisex and overly trendy to me, and Arley would be misheard as Harley

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/04/2024 22:44

None are exactly my taste - I thought you meant actual traditional names that your Dad or Grandad might have like Robert, Michael, Peter, John etc ( which I’d love).

Of your options I’d probably pick Toby although I much prefer Tobias, 2nd choice trendy but cool sounding Ezra. I don’t really dislike Milo or Jonah ( just find Milo very trendy and Jonah makes me think of the Whale). Remy always sounds cartoon -like to me ( a bit like Barney) and Arley is going to get Harley constantly.

CookieCrumbles23 · 30/04/2024 22:53

My vote is for Jimberly! Or Ezra but definitely go with Jimberly.

AdaColeman · 30/04/2024 22:59

Arley might be confused with Harley, especially if you live in the South East, he could get fed up with correcting people!

Toby is my favourite.

NetMum2 · 01/05/2024 05:21

I voted Milo, but like it just as much as Jonah.
Toby is lovely too - its a solid baby/boy/adult name.

There is a list of options to vote for underneath the OP.

There is a poll with the names. Sometimes people can't see the poll, depending on what device or app they are using.

DappledThings · 01/05/2024 09:57

I've voted Toby but only if Tobias with Toby for short

NightPuffins · 01/05/2024 10:13

Oh! No I can't see any poll. I use the phone app and don't ever see polls or voting.

Going by others' comments, Jonah is a lovely choice.

WhoppingBgigBackside · 01/05/2024 14:45

Toby - relatively underused classic.
Jonah - bad luck connotations.
Milo - dog's name, milky drink
Ezra - trendy, sounds quite harsh
Remy- ok if you're an older french man
Arley - too close to Arlo

sunshine2go · 01/05/2024 14:49

I don't think your list is traditional. That would be more Oliver, Charles , George that are always top 100 from the beginning of time!

I would vote Remy but go with what you love!

user1492757084 · 01/05/2024 15:03

Angus
Charles
Milo
Maurice

Moveoverdarlin · 01/05/2024 15:05

None of them are boring or traditional. I thought you were going to say Harry / Jack / Oliver. Toby is the most conventional.

WhoppingBgigBackside · 01/05/2024 15:16

My vote goes to Toby.
Sorry, I was distracted by the lack of a list.

Edited

The name is on the list - it was Jonah! I didn’t want to share and it skew the results in anyway.

Thank you ☺️ The feedback we generally get with Jonah is positive (minus the few who mention bad luck connotations, which we’re not bothered about!). The name I kept going back to was Arley but my husband isn’t the biggest fan, and it could seem a bit too matchy with his sisters names. I think we’ll probably go with Jonah if we can settle on a slightly edgier middle name! X

Jonah Arley sounds really good together as first & middle name
Also for the record my friend who has Jonah her son is the only child I’ve met with the name (I worked in childcare for ten years literally looked after SO many kids) back to your list we liked Toby! But I looked after too many Toby’s .. I’ve also known lots of Ezra/Remy & Milo’s though they trended around the time I had my eldest child xx

WhoppingBgigBackside · 03/05/2024 23:09

Jonah Arley sounds really good together They don't.

Definitely Ezra. Gorgeous name. Have you considered Romy? Similar to Remy and I think it’s lovely

I love Romy, but personally see it as more girly. It is lovely though!
