I’m not fussed if people like or dislike I just worry is the French name:
Aurien
is it too like Aryan (obviously a horrible racist name!)emphasis on the Au rie
which would be her nick name
baby Aurie
thank you!

I love it and I think the pronunciation is different enough that 'Aryan' wouldn't have occurred to me.

greglet · 30/04/2024 10:27

But wouldn't the feminine be Aurienne?

pontipinemum · 30/04/2024 10:32

Aryan didn't come to my mind at all. Which would be Air -ee-n

My French is very rusty but I thought Au-Ree-en which is pretty much how you are pronouncing it.

Thanks so much everyone.
this is my first post I have no idea how to reply individually!
I dislike the overly feminine extra “ne” for some strange reason and prefer the simplicity of Aurien over Aurienne x

Your baby, your name choice, absolutely - but:

  1. As previous poster has said, in French Aurien is masculine; it's a male name.
  2. Also in French, it would be pronounced more like 'Oh-ree-en'. (The same 'au' sound occurs in words such as 'auberge' or phrases such 'au bord de la mer'.)

But to answer your question, it's not at all like 'Aryan'.

If you Google 'Aurien', you get names of scent and a lot of fandom stuff. No idea whether that's harmless or nasty; I have not looked.

The pronunciation of Aurien and Aurienne are different.
Aurien is more Aur-yan than Auri-en. Aurienne is Aur-yen.

pinkmags · 30/04/2024 13:52

Aurien is a lovely name, as is Aurelien.

Not at all similar to Aryan.

Nicebloomers · 30/04/2024 15:26

Not too close to Aryan, but much prefer Aurienne

FlatWhite2 · 01/05/2024 23:03

Wouldn’t think Aryan at all & Aurien is so lovely. Congrats!

RogueFemale · 02/05/2024 11:17

It'll get endlessly mispronounced and misspelt.
