can't think of a boy name!!

Hi! We've got a baby boy on the way and absolutely can't think of anything!! Brothers are Jasper and Christopher, sister is Lily and if he was a girl his name would have been Emma, but we really liked Dianna, Clara, and Lucy (no shortage of girl names as you can see!!)

We toyed around with Leo, Miles, Theo, and Henry but none seem like the one. Lately I've found myself drawn to Julian/Jules, but I'm still a bit on the fence :(

Names we would like to use as the middle name (but can't as the first!) are Austin and Robin, but we aren't too attached to either (wouldn't use Robin as a first name anyways)! Double barelled last name, two syllable-one syllable, ending with a short i sound and a "t" (think "lift").

First name and middle name combos are appreciated! Thank you in advance :)

Also - as I was writing this, Matthew came to mind? Not sure though, maybe if there was a lovely middle name to go with it.

Love your current childrens' names! We may have used one...

How about Alistair? Underused, classic and not religious.

I really like Peter and Matthew too!

Henry is so nice but does seem to be everywhere atm.

@theduchessofspork Matthias Jules is awesome!! Hadn't thought about that at all. Christopher Robin was so hard to resist 😭😭doesn't help that it's so cute as well!

@17caterpillars1mouse I'm thinking the same thing about Jules/Julian. Thoughts on Julian Austin with nn Jules? I think it might be my favourite! Also considering Julian Ellis, Julian Oscar.

@snackprovidersupreme That was my thought with Henry, we know three in our vicinity! Alistair is cool, I think I might like it as a middle name. I'm leaning towards vowels there.

Louis Matthew

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/04/2024 23:35

Alexander or Peter instantly sprang to mind since they are so classic and share the same ending of your other boys names. Peter maybe taking the lead as it’s more uncommon plus shorter ( which may work better with a double barrelled surname).

Matthew is very nice too though and I don’t hate Julian (though not a fave as I love Juliet for girls) - but I definitely wouldn’t go for Jules alone with his siblings having nice full names.

Middle names- if I had a William, Thomas or Robert in the family I wouldn’t be able to resist as they are such classics. And Robin is a nn for Robert , so two names in one!

“Peter Robert” and then you can buy him cute Peter Rabbit toys as a baby/toddler as a bonus 🥰

Dislike Mathew - have never met a nice one!

Would have a Jasper and Jules, easy to mix up.

Oh the Peter Rabbit connection is just adorable! What do you think of Peter Robin instead of Peter Robert though? Robert was where I had gotten Robin from initially. I'm weirdly picky with names because of how much I love my existing childrens names and nothing seems quite right 😭 I love Alexander, but for some reason I just can't imagine naming my son that :( Maybe even Peter Rupert?

I think Peter Robin is lovely too, less keen on Peter Rupert but that’s just personal taste. However I think both work well with your sons names and I like both better than Jules, Austin, Ellis etc

(My personal taste for boys names tends to very traditional, timeless and therefore quite popular boys names so generally of the William, Alexander, Edward, Thomas, James sort - Robert, John, Peter, Nathaniel ( being out of the top 100 but still classic) are about as wild as I get 🤣).

I agree it’s hard to imagine Alexander being used day to day - it’s quite a “big” name, you’d have to love a shortening for it as much as the full version.

Does your Christopher get called Kit? If you like Robin for Robert, I’m just considering whether you’d like one of the classics but with a old fashioned/quirky nn- like Jem for James, Hal for Henry, Ned for Edward/Edmund/Benedict, Nico or Cole for Nicholas, Laurie for Laurence etc

I don’t really like Peter Rupert either if I think about it, Rupert was just in my head from a pp. I see where you’re coming from with traditional names I just find it hard to imagine a little baby John for some reason 😆

I think that is my issue with Alexander! Especially since I don’t love Alex/Alec or like Xander/Zander either. Christopher does go by Kit! Chris as well though, but I think you’re right about classic names with quirky nicknames. I quite like Laurie!

We were considering Henry, probably would call him Hen if anything, but it’s just a bit too popular around where we are unfortunately :( I like Jem for James as well! You’ve given me a lovely perspective with unusual nicknames for old fashioned names, thank you so much haha!

I like Matthew and might have considered it but for the fact I had an uncle Matthew on each side.

Was going to suggest Benjamin - your cat has a great name! - but what about Reuben?

junebirthdaygirl · 28/04/2024 03:39

I love Julian with your other names.
Or as you also like Austin what about Justin?
Also love Nathaniel and Simon
