Having a last minute wobble before the birth; Serena or Esme, which one is your favourite? UK based and one syllable last name. Thanks!

Serena 100%

I personally much prefer it, but that’s not the main thing. More syllables so will sound much better with 1 syllable surname. Also, Esme pronunciation issues - Esmee or Esmay? Also, Esme is one of those unusual names which has become popular in the last 5 years or so, not MADLY popular but it’s quite likely to date her more than Serena.

Moreteaandchocolate · 27/04/2024 11:06

Esme is my favourite :)

MollsDolls · 27/04/2024 11:12

Esme. This was top of my list if I had another girl but wasn't to be.

pippapipps · 27/04/2024 11:15

Serena lovely name, I know of someone who has a Esme and that call her Ess!

MissBPotter · 27/04/2024 11:16

Serena, had on my list and kind of wished we used it. Lots of esme’s and all different pronunciations which could be annoying.

Nicebloomers · 27/04/2024 11:25

Serena

Esme is lovely but a lot more popular

Thorfire · 27/04/2024 14:17

Serena 💓

both are lovely ☺️

BoleynMemories13 · 27/04/2024 14:45

Serena is lovely and not over-used.

Personally I find Esme very 'blah'. Also has pronunciations issues.

Definitely Serena!

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 27/04/2024 15:10

Serena. Don’t like Esme at all, plus it’s quite common now so a bit blah.

Anametolove · 27/04/2024 17:54

Thank you everyone - reading your answers with interest! I am now swaying in favour of Serena!

Serena is a beautiful name. Could shorten to Seren or Nina if wanted.

user1499114292 · 27/04/2024 17:59

I’ve never met a nice Serena… Esme all the way, but Inez is a nice alternative…?

octoberfarm · 27/04/2024 18:02

Serena for sure!

User6761 · 27/04/2024 18:05

Serena, although I prefer Seren. There's also the similar Selina.

Agree with pronunciation issues with Esme - Ez or Ess, mee or may. And I think it will date more than Serena.

PleaseletitbeSpring · 27/04/2024 18:48

Esme will definitely date. It was considered an awful "old lady's" name when I was a child. Now it's everywhere. Serena is beautiful and never had the dated connotation.

Meredusoleil · 27/04/2024 18:50

Serena 💯%

shoopshoopdedoo · 27/04/2024 19:12

Both nice but I slightly prefer Esme. I know two Esme’s and they are fab so that sways it for me!

Workawayxx · 27/04/2024 19:29

Serena is beautiful and timeless. Esme is tricky with pronunciation/accents etc and has a bit of a surge in popularity a few years ago I think which puts me off a bit.

petitdonkey · 27/04/2024 19:31

Serena for me! If popularity bothers you, I work in a prep school. In the last ten years I’d estimate at least one Esme per year group- never had a Serena!

Grazyna80 · 27/04/2024 19:31

Serena

Glitterbiscuits · 27/04/2024 20:52

Serena.

CutiePatooties · 27/04/2024 20:55

Serena.

Jokl · 27/04/2024 20:56

Serena, no hesitation. Esme is nice but dull.

theduchessofspork · 27/04/2024 21:32

Serena

Esme is ok but it’s very overused, has two pronunciations (annoying), and doesn’t have Serena’s elegance and strength

strawberry2017 · 27/04/2024 22:00

Serena,
Both are lovely but Esme is the more popular one xx
