Just kidding! Now I have your attention, please rank these mostly 'vintage' names from best to worst. Please also vote for your favourite in the poll if you can see it. Surname's Cooper. Cheers!

Lawrence
Edmund
Edwin
Robert
Philip
Walter

Methuselah or Dismas?

Edwin was on our list as it was my dads middle name. So Edwin!

Overtheatlantic · 25/04/2024 15:40

Walt Cooper would be an excellent name! Old movie star or television news reader. “And here’s Walt Cooper with the latest on the protests in Paris.”

StarsHideYourFir3s · 25/04/2024 16:01

Not sure what angle you want to go for/what impression you want to give off - but if it's middle class or aspirational, it will be ruined by the surname Cooper. Round here (South West) it's a Traveller surname - other people remember Lauren Cooper off Catherine Tate's show so please don't call him Lawrence.

muddyford · 25/04/2024 16:16

From my favourite down:
Robert
Philip
Lawrence/Laurence, which I prefer
Edmund
Edwin

shoopshoopdedoo · 25/04/2024 20:08

Like them all. Faves are Edmund/Edwin - though I prefer Edward to both - and Robert.

BreakfastAtMimis · 25/04/2024 20:10

They're all terrible, I just picture a man who is a total drip with any of these names. You need a Frank or a Stan or an Alf.

GoodVibesHere · 25/04/2024 20:19

I like Lawrence.

Edmund is awful, Walter even worse.

KirstenBlest · 25/04/2024 21:10

Lauren Scooper? @StarsHideYourFir3s

Gary?

SkaneTos · 25/04/2024 23:33

I voted for Edwin, but they are all good names!

Renamed · 25/04/2024 23:48

Methuselah is nice but not sure about shortening it (Meth?)…

Dont like Larry but Laurie is nice I think. Or Lorenzo! Walter Cooper doesn’t quite flow….

Solid names you can see in print though

”Lawrence Edwin Cooper (b. 2024) is an actor, director, explorer and inventor. He patented the first fully recyclable plastic at the age of 17…” etc.

ODFOx · 26/04/2024 10:13

Walter doesn't flow nicely with your surname imo, but otherwise I think they are all good contenders.
Though none are as good as Dismas, obviously 😉

DrJoanAllenby · 26/04/2024 10:54

Lawrence
Edmund
Edwin
Robert
Philip
Walter

I only like Lawrence or Methusalah.

SpringLobelia · 26/04/2024 10:56

I voted Walter because a friend named his son that. At first i was Hmm but he is just the most beautiful happy gorgeous little poppet and so i have grown to adore the name. His nn is Walt.

user1492757084 · 26/04/2024 11:46

KirstenBlest · 26/04/2024 11:49

The knickerbockers made me think of Nick.

TheCultureHusks · 26/04/2024 13:28

Waltmund

Pearlinda · 26/04/2024 13:31

I love Walter! Lawrence is second favourite.

really not a Philip fan, just made me think of Philip Schofield puffing on that Lost Mary vape.

ScruffMuffin · 26/04/2024 20:57

Lawrence
Robert

ScruffMuffin · 26/04/2024 20:58

Keroppi · 26/04/2024 21:05

I like them all, bar Philip, love Lawrence.
Laurence! Lozza! Lol! Laurie! Larry! Laurentius! Lozenge..? Laurent quite nice too.

kalokagathos · 26/04/2024 22:32

Lawrence at a push

theduchessofspork · 27/04/2024 10:34

Laurence, but it’s usually spelt like that as a first name, with the w as a surname

I also like Robert (Robbie)

quite like Philip when it’s shortened to Pip

don’t mind Walter

Ed names are way overdone

ScruffMuffin · 27/04/2024 11:02

@KirstenBlest oh yeah! Fortunately, that will be way off the next generation's radar.
