You can't call a baby Scout. Save it for a pet.

Boybaby · 22/04/2024 16:26

@DuchessOfSausage fair enough! I did think this one was quite out there. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.

Amos - my favourite by far. Do you like Ambrose as well

Barnaby/Barnabas (Barney) - only know one and he's an adult now.

Evan - love the name Evan and every one I've ever met has been a really nice chap Wink

Jonah - no

Henry - lovely but really popular

Reuben - think it's a chain of burger restaurants?

Orlando - ok

Oscar - lovely but I feel it's a bit overdone now

Phineas - ok

Scout - like the PP, save this one fir when you get a Labrador Wink

kezzykicks · 22/04/2024 16:29

Ahh you have similar taste to me!

love Barnaby, Jonah and Reuben the most.

DaisyDonaldDucks · 22/04/2024 16:31

I love Barnaby and Jonah.
No to Orlando, Florida and Scout (which sounds like a girl's name because of To Kill a Mockingbird).
All the others seem fine.

Amos - like but might get called Ames/Amy
Barnaby/Barnabas (Barney) - I like Barnaby
Evan - like
Jonah - not keen. Unlucky
Henry - ok but popular
Reuben - Often misspelt. Popular but Roman & Rowan popular too. Not keen
Orlando - ok but a bit flamboyant
Oscar - ok. Popular
Phineas - Finn and Finley are very popular
Scout

Liv999 · 22/04/2024 18:43

Amos - I don't like it. I think it's the sound.
Barnaby/Barnabas (Barney) - Not keen.
Evan - I like it.
Jonah - I like this too.
Henry - sweet, but too popular for me.
Reuben - ok
Orlando - No.
Oscar - nice, but too popular for me.
Phineas - I really like Finn, not keen on the Ph spelling
Scout - it's a cute nickname, but for me it's always a girls name because of To Kill A Mockingbird. I absolutely wouldn't use it as a given name for a boy!

resm · 23/04/2024 21:50

From your list, I absolutely love Oscar and Evan. Jonah and Henry are nice too.

Is it the sound of the names on your list you like, or the vibe if you know what I mean?

What about these similar sounding names (few are Irish names):

Eamon - Amos
Bernard / Barra - Barnaby / Barnabas
Euan / Gavin / Kevin - Evan
Noah / Judah / Jude - Jonah
Harry - Henry
Rua / Ruairi - Reuben
Odhrán - Orlando
Oisin - Oscar
Finn / Finbar / Fintan - Phineas
Scott - Scout

Firebird83 · 23/04/2024 21:54

I love Barnabas and like Amos, Henry and Evan. I prefer Jonas to Jonah.

goldenretrievermum5 · 24/04/2024 03:41

Amos - too ‘out there’. Feels more like a sound than a name to me

Barnaby/Barnabas (Barney) - cringey and twee. Will always be associated with the purple dinosaur!

Evan - like

Jonah - very nice

Henry - love!

Reuben - another favourite of mine

Orlando - definitely not, very chavvy

Oscar - not bad but a bit wet for me. Can’t imagine an adult Oscar

Phineas - really like it but much prefer the Finneas spelling. No Phineas & Ferb connotations and better nickname potential (Finn) if he decides he wants a more mainstream name down the line

Scout - not unless you’re giving birth to a golden retriever

clarrylove · 24/04/2024 06:05

Amos - no. Emerdale Farm old man memories
Barnaby/Barnabas (Barney) - purple dinosaur
Evan - like but quite common. Welsh connections?
Jonah - no. Means a jinx. And used as a noun in coastal/naval areas.
Henry - ok but popular
Reuben - Often misspelt. Nice.
Roman & Rowan popular too. I like Roman. All the Rowans I know are girls.
Orlando - too out there
Oscar - Too Popular
Phineas - Too try hard. Would be called Finn.
Scout - no. Girls name anyway.

theduchessofspork · 24/04/2024 14:19

Amos is fabulous

Amos- as above
Barnaby/Barnabas (Barney) - like it a lot especially Barnabas
Evan - bit dated
Jonah - great
Henry - very nice but way overdone
Reuben - ditto
Orlando - it’s a strong flavour, I don’t mind it
Oscar - nice but way overdone
Phineas - too many Fin/Finlays - all called Finn
Scout - step away..

Maybe..

Ignatius (Iggy)
Jerome
Moses
Augustus
Tobias
Patrick
Laurence (Laurie)
Silas
Seth
Gawain

DuchessOfSausage · 24/04/2024 15:25

Lando will probably be a bit more popular than you might think, because of Lando Norris. It isn't 'out there'.

funnyoldonion · 24/04/2024 15:28

Amos is gorgeous- I think you may like Cassius - I know a Reuben Cassius

funnyoldonion · 24/04/2024 15:29

Nope Cassius Reuben!

shoopshoopdedoo · 24/04/2024 19:22

Henry is my favourite. I also like Oscar, and quite like Amos and Barnaby. Less keen on the others, especially Scout. But my taste in names is probably quite boring.

Holstomorrow · 24/04/2024 20:55

Amos - it’s ok but makes me think of an old American cowboy (not sure why)
Barnaby/Barnabas (Barney) - I like Barnaby, but not Barnabas and definitely not Barney
Evan - I like it
Jonah- I like it
Henry- I like it (but it’s very popular)
Reuben - yes, this is a good name
Orlando - great name
Oscar - I like it but Oscars are two a penny
Phineas - great
Scout - I don’t think it would be fair to call a boy Scout
