Twin girl names, to go with Theo & Amelia

Hello,

We're expecting twin girls soon, and we're finding it so tough to find names we love! As they are identical, we don't want matching names.

Our 2 older children are called Theo (Theodore) and Mimi (Amelia), we potentially want something slightly less mainstream this time. Our surname is quite botanical, so that sort of rules out flower names etc.

Names we like (but not quite set on) include:
Lyra
Lara
Florence
Delphi (is that more of a nickname?)
Reeva (although that reminds me of Oscar Pistorius, so I think that rules it out!)
Eliza
Riley (maybe a bit American)
Tabitha (I love, husband hates)
Mathilda (as above!)

I'd love to hear any new ideas or suggestions!! xx

I’m with you on Tabitha. I wanted it but dh also hated it. Is he sway able?

theduchessofspork · 22/04/2024 14:35

I like Lara, Florence and Eliza, but they are certainly mainstream.

I like Lyra too, and Tabitha and Matilda (but not use if your husband doesn’t). Reeva I think is quite ugly and does make me think of that poor girl. Delphi is ok but quite weird unless you are a massive fan of the Greek myths (and even then..) - Delphine is a French name though. Riley is really dreadful (sorry)

If you want slightly less mainstream then maybe

Verity
Cecile
Estella
Lois
Ines
Cassia (Cassie)
Daphne
Circe
Persephone
Ismene (Iz-mee-nee)
Ianthe
Saskia (Sasha for short if you want)
Vita
Vivienne
Oona
Frieda
Marianne
Ida
Carys
Serena
Seraphina

Sadly he's not sway-able (I originally wanted it for our 1st daughter, he refused then and doesn't want to see it on the shortlist now either 🙄)

I've pitched Cassia, Daphne, Serena and Seraphina to the husband, but he's not keen (he might get a surprise if I pull rank post-childbirth!! 😂)

My friend has kids called Theo and Amelia 😊 they're the oldest and have two sisters.

Third child is Rowan and fourth is Francesca (Frankie). Love both of these.

Of your list I really like Lara and Matilda (Matty/Tilly - I have friends who go by both!). I actually like Reeva a lot but much like Madeleine (one of my favourites) it has too much association with tragic events now I think.

How about Adelaide? Jocelyn? Jocasta?

zump · 22/04/2024 14:56

If your husband dislikes Tabitha, what about these as alternatives:

Talitha
Talia/Thalia
Tamsin

Or:
Coralie
Coraline
Sabrina
Anita
Rosamund
Jocelyn
Mariella
Monica
Erica

Don't know whether this will bother you, but Boris Johnson has children called Theo, Lara and Cassia - so maybe don't go for Lara and Cassia as your twins!

Well he’s going to have to agree to SOMETHING. I’d put a piece of paper on the fridge and tell him to come up with a bloody list!

I LOVE Lara and Delphi (I've only ever known one Delphi - it wasn't a nickname.)
I really like Lyra and Reeva (maybe spell it Riva to lessen the Pistorius connection?)
I like Mathilda and Riley (the only girl Riley I know does happen to be American but I don't know if that proves anything).
Florence, Eliza and Tabitha are good solid names but not my particular taste. I have nothing against them though.

Natural fits for Amelia and Theo:
Alice, Alexandra, Bethany, Beatrice, Charlotte, Chloe, Darcey, Eva, Eleanor, Freya, Felicity, Grace, Georgia, Harriet, Hollie, Isla, Imogen, Jessica, Julia, Katie, Lucy, Layla, Madeleine, Olivia, Phoebe, Penny, Ruby, Rosie, Sophie, Scarlett, Willow, Zara

Less mainstream ideas:
Astrid, Aphra, Bronte, Bryony, Calista, Calliope, Danica, Dana, Evadne, Evangeline, Fallon, Fenella, Giselle, Hebe, Harmony, Isolde, Isadora, Jessamy, Jacinta, Keziah, Kendra, Leonie, Larissa, Meredith, Marianne, Nikita, Nyah, Octavia, Paloma, Pandora, Rivkah, Rowena, Rosina, Saffron, Sorrell, Sephora, Talitha, Tassita, Verity, Vanessa, Vivianne, Xanthippe, Yvette, Zeryn, Zipporah

I love Ottilie and Serena and we've thought about these, but I wonder if they'd end up using a nickname, not that keen on Tilly for Ottilie and I'm not sure what a shortened version of Serena would be 🤔
