Impressions about Maristella?

Just that, really… what would you think?

Have you ever come across one in person or in the media, or would you think it’s made up (without googling, ideally!)?

Would you naturally assume a particular ethnicity/background/religion?

And do you like it?

It sounds like it should be a brand of wine.

Teacupsandrollups · 19/04/2024 18:46

It’s truly awful.

Eloraa · 19/04/2024 18:47

I’d assume French, and / or made up. It’s not to my taste, but I don’t mind it.

Bananadramallamas · 19/04/2024 18:48

It sounds made up, and a bit strange.

HoldingTheDoor · 19/04/2024 18:49

It sounds like a cruise ship.

DreadPirateRobots · 19/04/2024 18:49

A truly awful bastardisation of Mariella.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 19/04/2024 18:50

Sounds like a brand of oral contraceptive to me

Moier · 19/04/2024 18:50

Our local ice cream van is called Maristella's

londonmummy1966 · 19/04/2024 18:51

I'd assume western Mediterranean catholic as in Ave Maris Stella

pilates · 19/04/2024 18:51

Not good, sorry
Marcella?

Talipesmum · 19/04/2024 18:52

I’d assume made up if the family seemed like they had UK heritage, but if I thought they were from overseas somewhere or had heritage overseas I’d probably just think it was a name I’d not heard of from their country of origin.
I’m more familiar with Mariella, or Stella, or various Marie- hyphen names. I might think it was Marie-Stella. But I meet people all the time with names I’ve never heard of before so I’d just think hey ho that’s a new one and get on with it.

Nicebloomers · 19/04/2024 18:52

I would assume on hearing that it was Marie-Stella.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/04/2024 18:52

Sounds like a Nun. Sister Mariestella.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 19/04/2024 18:53

Sorry @GreatestGatsby but it’s bloody awful and she’ll spend a lifetime telling people how to spell it.

PaperStarred · 19/04/2024 18:53

I know it’s a Spanish/Portuguese name, but it feels the wrong way round. Shouldn’t it be ‘Stellamaris’ for ‘Star of the Sea’? I’m familiar with that as a Marian attribute, often used to dedicate churches on the coast.

GloriaMundy · 19/04/2024 18:54

Stella Maris and think devout Roman Catholic parents.

SabreIsMyFave · 19/04/2024 18:54

No! Sounds like a brand of cigarettes!

NisekoWhistler · 19/04/2024 18:55

Is it a variety of potatoe?

CTR1000 · 19/04/2024 18:55

I went to school with a Maristela! (Only one L though). She mostly went by Marie, which was probably not a surprise in Glasgow in the 80s.

It’s a pretty enough name. I’ve never met one since.

devildeepbluesea · 19/04/2024 18:56

I thought it was a type of bacteria

Talipesmum · 19/04/2024 18:56

I did just google after my first answer, and saw alternative spelling Maristela, which somehow seems nicer. A bit more like a single name rather than Stella with a bit on the front. But since i know nothing about the name background please disregard!

Izzabellasasperella · 19/04/2024 18:56

Sounds like a fancy lager to me, sorry.

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/04/2024 18:58

No!

Mariella is nice

YesYesAllGood · 19/04/2024 18:58

I quite like it! Maybe better as Maristela, as others have mentioned. Or even Maristelle?
