We've narrowed our list down to 10 names! Dh is half French and is quite keen on a French name but there aren't loads I've come across that I love. Please let me know any opinions on our list and any more names you think we might like :)

Willa
Clara
Lila
Ines
Flora
Margot
Jolie
Lena
Cosette
Felicity

I think all of them are fine except Jolie. I’ve not heard of that used as a first name before.

Cosette is a nice name, but I also never met anyone called that outside of Les Mis.

I think Lena is my favourite.

Lila and Clara are becoming very common here.

I think my favourites are Margot, Willa and Lena (lee-na). although dh thinks there are too many different ways of pronouncing lena and I can see his point there!

My favourites from your list, in this order, would be,
Ines
Flora
Felicity
Lila
Clara

Willa - sounds like how my very cockney grandma would say Willow.
Margot - I just don't like it for no specific reason.
Jolie - the lovely French pronunciation will forever be butchered by English-speakers, they will call her Jolly.
Lena - she'll constantly have to explain its Lay-na or Lee-na.
Cosette - she'll have comments about Les Miserables for her whole life.

Moreteaandchocolate · 17/04/2024 14:43

My favourites are Clara, Lila and Lena - gorgeous, classy, simple and pretty for all ages.

I also like Cosette and Ines, especially if you want a more obviously French vibe. Flora is quite nice.

I quite like Margot (possibly a bit trendy) and Willa (possibly a bit too like Will / Willow)

Not keen on Felicity (sounds frilly / posh to me) and Jolie (I think it would be butchered to Jolly round here!)

Ideas

Eloise
Elodie
Esme
Lea
Adeline
Elise
Amy
Amelie
Madeleine
Nicole
Liana
Corinne

Every other new female baby I see in my job is another Margot.
Would avoid.
Not keen on your others tbh.

Anais
Juliette
Reine
Elise
Zoe
Nathalie

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/04/2024 15:00

@bluebellbloom ok, you've got your top three.
keep saying and writing them with your last name to see how they look and sound. Do you have a middle name chosen, or could one of your top three be it?
Wila Margot, or Lena Margot both sound nice. ☺️

KeepSmiling89 · 17/04/2024 15:03

Out of your list, Clara is my favourite...I am VERY biased though as I have a 2.5 year old Clara as well. Still love her name as much as when I chose it :)

Flora and Felicity are very pretty names as well though.

BrownTroutBlues · 17/04/2024 15:04

I like Margo ( reminds me of the Durrells )
and Cosette ( reminds me of Les Miserable )

I have French penfriends
Fabienne
Brigitte
they have daughters
Manon
Victoria

All lovely name

Lightningrain · 17/04/2024 15:05

I love Clara.

Also Eloise and Elise were on my list last year.

Allshallbewell2021 · 17/04/2024 15:07

Are you UK based?
This is just my POV and might be a particular one and influenced by my age

Willa - if in theUK this is very close to 'Willy' but fine elsewhere
Clara - LOVE
Lila - nice but immediately it's a 'how do you pronounce that?' For me
Ines - Lovely but see above
Flora - lively but makes me think a bit of margarine
Margot - good but very home counties older lady to me
Jolie - too Angelina
Lena - Leena or Layna? Pretty
Cosette - pretty
Felicity - pretty

MerryChristmasToYou · 17/04/2024 15:10

Willa - dreadful
Clara - don't like it
Lila - so many similar names popular
Ines - like it a lot
Flora - like it a lot
Margot - likely to be very popular, looks like Maggot
Jolie - dreadful. Like calling your daughter Nice or Pretty
Lena - Leena/Layna/Lenna?
Cosette - awful
Felicity - a bit too long

Mandarinaduck · 17/04/2024 15:10

What about spelling it Lina, the pronunciation is less ambiguous then.

Other suggestions:
Lia
Lea
Nina
Lilou
Emma
Sara
Leonie
Josephine

i really like Ines too.

MrsMoiraRose · 17/04/2024 15:16

I love Margot. I know it's popular but I still really like it.

I also like Camille, Clara and Flora.

TrustPenguins · 17/04/2024 15:16

I like Flora and Margot.

MrsMoiraRose · 17/04/2024 15:16

Also lile Florence

MerryChristmasToYou · 17/04/2024 15:23

Jolie (as in Angelina) tends to get said as Joe-Lee

Nicebloomers · 17/04/2024 16:48

Ines is beautiful

Flora, Margot and Felicity are lovely too.

Fetalfractionquestion · 17/04/2024 16:52

Flora is BEAUT!

Vicliz24 · 17/04/2024 16:59

I've got a friend called Joli I absolutely love her name .

theduchessofspork · 17/04/2024 20:25

Ines - elegant and strong
Felicity - fun but strong
Flora - also very nice

Willa - it’s a bit faddy
Clara - v nice but overdone now
Lila - bit nothingy - and there are so many Lola/Leila/Lena/Lyra/Luna/Lara/Lilah names - they all blur
Ines - fabulous and underused
Flora - lovely, very similar vibe to Clara to me, but less overdone
Margot - love it but very overdone no
Jolie - no, it’s too hello magasine and if she isn’t pretty it will be unfortunate
lena - l like it better than Lila but same problem
Cosette - this is very odd, like a Les Mis homage
Felicity - great

Riverlee · 17/04/2024 20:31

Margaux rather than Margot?

Minette
Estelle
Maria
Natalie/Natalia
Claudette

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/04/2024 20:35

Love Lena and Ines. I’d pronounce Lena as Len-ah, but also like Lee-na - people will remember the pronunciation when you introduce her!

skipskippy · 17/04/2024 20:39

Juliet
Colette
Elise
Yvette
