Hello all,
Currently looking for Hebrew names for boys. We’ve decided on Talia for a girl but are struggling for boys names.

Thanks all,
Dh and I also like Yair and Zachary, as well as well as Oren and Joel. Is Zachary going to be shortened to Zach? Also our surname is very short (four letters, two syllables) so we are concerned that Yair and Joel wouldn’t go! It’s so much to think about! We have a middle name set, but first names are so hard!

I forgot to add, the middle name will be Anshel.

The Hebrew shortening of David to 'Dov' as a pet name is very sweet I think.

My dad is a David and his late parents would call him Dov.

Dov is a name on its own. It means bear. Technically its not a shortened form of David bc it uses different hebrew letters.

Do you prefer traditional/religious names or modern Hebrew names?

Tal is unisex if you like Talia for a girl.

I think more modern Hebrew names. We like Oren, Joel, Yair and Zachary!

Oren, Joel, Yair and Zachary are all lovely names but I would call them traditional/religious names 😂

I meant do you prefer more secular Hebrew names eg Aviv, Nisan, Kochav, Kfir etc

Emmanuel is lovely and can be shortened to Manny.

Asher is a brilliant name though, I'd go with that!

I forgot to add, the middle name will be Anshel.

I would go Zachary in that case. It would go 3 syllables, 2 and 2, which I think sounds nice. I also love Zachary ( but I don't care about the shortening as I love Zach too) I do live Joel too but I'm wondering if thats too many 'L' endings.

PiggieWig · 15/04/2024 11:25

I think Zachary flows really well with a short surname - and I adore the name. Plus not many people have Z as an initial which I think is cool.

I understand you perfectly! Finding a name for your baby boy can be exciting, but sometimes challenging. Here are a few Hebrew boy names that I know of. Maybe you will like some of them:
Eliyah, Isaac, David, Levi, Aaron, Samuel, Yakov.
I hope these suggestions help you in finding the right name for your baby boy!
