Hello all,
Currently looking for Hebrew names for boys. We’ve decided on Talia for a girl but are struggling for boys names.

David is lovely but it's always shortened to Dave. All the lovely David's I know are Daves!

Ishmael is technically Hebrew and it's beautiful.

We really love Liev or Levi. It also works well for the Russian side of the family when shortened to Lev.

Helsbels666 · 12/04/2024 20:20

We have an Oren and an Amos. Not met any others with those names so fairly uncommon but was traditional enough to please older relatives

Oren means pine/ash tree and we use Moss for Amos so both plant/botanical themed. We love their names

Lemuel, Micah & Doron

I've always liked Levi

Echobelly · 12/04/2024 20:37

I think Adiel is a really nice Hebrew name you don't hear often - can be male or female
Gavriel
Zohar - meaning 'brilliance' is really lovely too.
Gilad - meaning 'joyful' (it's pronounced with a hard 'G')

TheGiantEmperor · 12/04/2024 20:41

Oooh I love Lev.

mathanxiety · 12/04/2024 20:44

There are a few bloopers on this thread - "Shem" literally means "name" and also has religious connotations that would make it inappropriate as a modern name, and Ismael while originally an old Testament name is hardly ever used as a Hebrew name - it is a common modern Muslim name though.

Another vote for David. I don't think I've ever met a little David!
