Hello all,
Currently looking for Hebrew names for boys. We’ve decided on Talia for a girl but are struggling for boys names.

The Hebrew shortening of David to 'Dov' as a pet name is very sweet I think.

My dad is a David and his late parents would call him Dov.

I love Noah, Isaac, simeon, Malachi, Nathan but we finally settled on Reuben for our ds.

Laikalaika · 12/04/2024 20:59

Imisscoffee2021 · 12/04/2024 21:05

There are a few bloopers on this thread - "Shem" literally means "name" and also has religious connotations that would make it inappropriate as a modern name, and Ismael while originally an old Testament name is hardly ever used as a Hebrew name - it is a common modern Muslim name though.

Another vote for David. I don't think I've ever met a little David!

Grandfather who survived Nazi Germany and a certain POW camp / death camp was Ismael and most of our male family members have it as a middle name.

Benjamin, Jason , Joseph are are due a revival

if my daughter had been a boy she would have been Gideon - lovely name.

Do you prefer traditional/religious names or modern Hebrew names?

Tal is unisex if you like Talia for a girl.

A fair few names here are very well loved consistently, some are outright having a moment to shine.

There are so many lovely Hebrew names!

We have an Oren and an Amos. Not met any others with those names so fairly uncommon but was traditional enough to please older relatives

Oren means pine/ash tree and we use Moss for Amos so both plant/botanical themed. We love their names

I adore both of these names especially Amos!

Blacknailer · 12/04/2024 22:54

I have a David in my family never known as Dave.

Love Asher, I wanted to use it. Also Oren.

I know an Amos, was nicknamed Mossy when small.

Jonah
Raphael

Mammyloveswine · 12/04/2024 22:59

I love Asher!!

I have a Noah and an Elijah but if I had a third I would def use Asher!

Elijah is very popular where I live (usually shortened to Eli) but despite Noah being super popular we don't know any others!!

DreamTheMoors · 12/04/2024 23:01

Seth?

Mammyloveswine · 12/04/2024 23:02

Oh just seen Malachi mentioned! Love that!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 12/04/2024 23:07

Jedediah. I love Jed as a nn.
Also Micah, Gideon, Daniel and Jude.

ReggaetonLente · 12/04/2024 23:14

Our friends have an Obadiah, they call him Obie.

My dad liked Hepzibah but failed to convince my mother!

FirstBaba · 12/04/2024 23:26

I have always loved the name Zion but unfortunately it has far too many negative connotations now 😬

FabulousWealthyTart · 13/04/2024 05:38
