Faizan or Danyal

Becks1992 · 07/04/2024 21:04

My son is a Danyal, but spelt Daniyal and his surname is Ali. I also liked Ilyas for if my second was a boy but had a little girl instead.

My husband has an Arabic name and growing up in the UK (and still now in his thirties) really hated having such a “distinctive” name. The sad reality is it can be a disadvantage in a Western country (assuming you live in a Western country). I’d suggest an Arabic name which co-exists in other cultures so he isn’t pigeon holed and it doesn’t close off opportunities etc. Luckily there are lots of lovely Arabic names which cross cultures with slight Western variations! Examples would be Adam, David, Joseph, Noah, Zachary, Jacob, Aiden, Harris, Benjamin/Benyamin, Dean, Ryan, Cameron, Darius (Persian), Daniel.

Ibrahim and Hamza are my favourites. But that is totally swayed by children I've looked after who were just lovely!
