Morgan or Caitlin?

According to the ons statistics it seems like Morgan in the UK was more of a one hit wonder trendy pick for a girl in the UK and more popular for boys about 20 years ago.

Caitlin was also popular too but maybe slightly more common than Morgan.

I like both but genuinely can't decide. Thoughts?

I've always liked Caitlin. It's nowhere near as popular as it was in the 00s but it's sweet and can be shortened to the classy Cait.

With Morgan, all I hear is morgue. No contest for me!

salamithumbs · 03/04/2024 19:51

I much prefer Caitlin! I agree that Morgan sounds like morgue and I'd probably presume Morgan was a boy since I know more boys with the name than girls

saraclara · 03/04/2024 19:53

I taught a boy called Morgan. All the other kinds called him Morg for short. Which is a really ugly name (especially for a girl) even if it doesn't remind you of morgue.

tiredandabitfat · 03/04/2024 20:03

Is Caitlin usually pronounced as spelt, with the exception of Caitlin Moran who pronounces it Cat-lin?

Either way, I'm not that keen. Prefer other versions of Kate / Cate, such as Katherine / Catherine.

I really like Morven, which is similar to Morgan.

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/04/2024 20:06

Definitely Caitlin! I’ve always loved the name and it’s not too overused either - great choice! Morgan I associate more with boys.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 03/04/2024 20:07

Caitlin for me!

SkaneTos · 03/04/2024 21:33

I think they are both lovely names!

(In my Scandinavian home country Morgan is very much a male name, but I know it is a name for both boys and girls in the UK and the US.)

Theoldwoman · 03/04/2024 22:43

Caitlin, too many male Morgan’s that put me off.

Castlerigg · 03/04/2024 22:45

I love Morgan for a girl, although I've only known of one.

I prefer Morgan! Loved it for my DD but got vetoed

Seedpods · 04/04/2024 10:07

Do you mean ‘Caitlin’ pronounced ‘Kate-lyn’? Anything but that.

StringTheory1 · 04/04/2024 10:13

Morgan = naughty boy name for me I’m afraid.

Morven = lovely girly name.

Caitlin = decent

JasminSnyder · 04/04/2024 10:28

I really love Caitlin, it sounds decent to me:)

I came here to post the same thing.

FayCarew · 04/04/2024 12:04

Not Morgan, for sure.

Notreat · 04/04/2024 12:09

To me Morgan is definitely a boy's name. It doesn't sound right for a girl. Caitlin is much nicer.

theduchessofspork · 06/04/2024 12:43

Caitlin - lovely name when said phonetically

Morgan is one of those names that should sound good (Arthurian links etc) but doesn’t.

Merryn is nice though

timoteigirl · 07/04/2024 13:11

Morgan - strong name and easy to spell.

Seedpods · 04/04/2024 10:07

Do you mean ‘Caitlin’ pronounced ‘Kate-lyn’? Anything but that.

It’s much nicer than the original Irish pronunciation though

spiderlight · 07/04/2024 22:43

Definitely Caitlin. Morgan is much more popular for boys in my area and it sounds a bit clunky to me.

RytonTarget · 07/04/2024 22:44

Caitlin (but not Kaitlyn or anything similar)

Morgan reminds me of that chavvy 90s clothes shop. Does it still exist?
