Without knowing your style it’s hard to say, for example my DH and I loved some names (think ‘Axel’ for a boy and ‘Roux’ for a girl) but decided we weren’t cool enough to pull them off 😂 also your surname comes into play like how many syllables, what it begins with etc

from your list I like Sebastian or Alexander the best. A lot of the names you’ve suggested are quite traditional and underused at the moment but more common a few decades ago.

Alexander - like it, classic
Austin - I think it’s quite common but nice
Cameron - naughty boy name 😂
Christopher - classic but not for me
Everett - not keen
James - like this, especially nn Jamie
Jax - chavvy IMO
Jaxon - as above
Jayce - don’t like the spelling but name is ok
Jason - I’d use this instead of Jayce and just have a nn
Joran - not for me
Liam - i know too many my age
Lex - think it’s missing something
Mathias - quite nice
Nate - I’d do Nathan and make Nate the nn
Sebastian - love
William - not keen personally but a classic name
Wouter - def not for me

some other names that might work for you that I love and are classic / evergreen:
Oscar
Jesse
Jude
Beau
Joseph (nn Joey)

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 01/04/2024 21:18

Alexander - love
Austin - I like
Cameron - not keen
Christopher - not keen, Chris seems too old for a child
Everett - not keen
James - I like, can’t go wrong with it
Jax - I like
Jaxon - don’t like
Jayce - do like
Jason - seems too dated
Joran- not heard of before, don’t really like
Liam - nice
Lex - not bad but would have it as a shortening for Alexander rather than on its own
Mathias - like
Nate - love but would do nathanial as the full name
Sebastian - like, especially Seb for short
William - like
Wouter - going to be a pronounciation nightmare if you live in the uk (if your in Netherlands then ok)

theduchessofspork · 01/04/2024 21:33

Alexander - nice, popular
Austin - Ok
Cameron - Ok
Christopher - nice, Chris is dull though
Everett - not great,
James - fine, bit dull
Jax - NO - v low rent
Jaxon - NO - ditto
Jayce - NO - ditto
Jason - no
Joran NO
Liam - No
Lex - no (fine short for Alexander)
Mathias - very nice, it’s usually Matthias though
Nate - v nice, better short for Nathan/iel
Sebastian - v nice
William - fine, way overdone though
Wouter - no / wtf - Walter is fine

Alexander- this has grown on me I can’t lie, especially now it’s less common
Austin- love it but maybe a little bit too American for my liking
Cameron- i find it a little boring I can’t lie
Christopher- don’t like personally, I do like the nickname Kit though, just think it’s at that awkward stage where it’s not modern or vintage
Everett- not my personal taste but I do like
James- classic, but maybe a bit too common
Jax- love it
Jaxon- love it, only thing is he’s going to have a lot of other people spelling it Jackson
Jayce- personally find it a bit tacky
Jason- bit middle aged
Joran- haven’t heard of this one before but I do like
Liam- A bit chavvy
Lex- I love this and haven’t heard of it before, reminds me of the name Axel
Mathias- love it
Nate- love it
Sebastian- love it
William- not for me but it’s still a nice name
Wouter- not sure on pronunciation but reminds me of someone saying router with a lisp

They are all good names!
My favourites from your list are

Christopher
Everett
Jason
Mathias
Nate
Sebastian
William

I have never heard the name Wouter, but I am not from the UK.

ButtockUp · 01/04/2024 21:45

Absolutely not Jacob. Never. Neither Jace or Joran.
You're trying too hard and they sound lazy and a bit chavvy.

As to Wouter ... you're really putting yourself out as pretentious.

However, as MN says , you do you.

babynamesaroundtheworld · 01/04/2024 21:47

@Aglassaday@GoldieLocks09@LiquoriceAllsorts2@SkaneTos@theduchessofspork @ButtockUp Thank you all for commenting and suggesting! I really enjoy reading all your thoughts :)
I just wanted to clear up that the name Wouter is Dutch. It is pronounced "vow-ter" - this is the closest pronounciation. I live in the Netherlands, therefore this name is easily pronounceable here.
Also, some of the names that are very common in the US and UK are not as common here.
Again, thanks for the comments and I am looking forward to more replies! :)

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 01/04/2024 21:58

Are you Dutch or British living in the Netherlands?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 01/04/2024 22:03

My favourites on your list are Nate and Alexander.

but I would read Nate as rhyming with eight. In Netherlands it would be Natta so pretty different. Not bad though but not as nice

NewName24 · 01/04/2024 22:34

I like Alexander and James best from your list.

But that is with my English head on. Names work differently in different languages.

daffophil · 01/04/2024 22:57

From your list I like Alexander, Liam and Nate.

There's a wildly different mix of timeless classics and bizarre in there so I'm unsure of your style.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/04/2024 00:59

Based on the fact you have both Alexander and Lex on your list and both William and Liam, I’d strongly suggest going for one of those (Alexander on birth certificate but call him Lex from day 1 so everyone else does, William on BC but Liam from day 1 etc). You have the best of both worlds then, plus William and Alexander are such classic names that work in a lot of countries. I’d possibly choose Alexander just as I prefer the nickname Lex to the nickname Liam but both William and Alexander are gorgeous picks,

Having said that, I have a real soft spot for less common (at least in the Uk) Mathias too as well as classic James and Nathaniel (rather than just Nate).

Since you have Lex and Jax on your list, I’d definitely consider Max too - it seems to be internationally well used and popular with young boys themselves too ( used as a characters name in lots of kids tv/films).

Flopsy145 · 07/04/2024 08:33

Alexander - don't mind it, he'll likely become Alex which might not work if you have a surname beginning with s, unless you set in with Xander from the get go.
Austin - too American
Cameron - I like it but it does remind me of Cam from modern family 😂
Christopher - love it with NN Kit
Everett - love this
James - classic can't go wrong, love the NN you can have such as Jamie or Jay
Jax - big fan
Jaxon - also big fan, but probably prefer Jackson spellinb
Jayce - no, too American (unless of course you are American then fine I suppose 😂)
Jason - no, feel like it's from a horror film
Joran - not keen
Liam - also not keen
Lex - I think of Lexi
Mathias - not a fan
Nate - like this
Sebastian - I know lots of people love this name but I hate it for some reason 😂
William - another classic
Wouter - I wouldn't know how to say this

Like:

Austin
Christopher (with the nickname Kit)
James
Jayce (though much prefer the spelling Jace)

Love:
Liam
William

Other suggestions: Jonah or Luke?

shoopshoopdedoo · 07/04/2024 15:03

LOVE Alexander and James. Maybe I’m boring, but I think they are classics and yet not super popular at the moment. Could have Lex as a nickname for Alexander but I wouldn’t use on its own.

I also like Sebastian, William and Christopher. Don’t mind Liam, Jason and Cameron. Less keen on the others, especially Jax, Jaxon, Jayce and Joran.
