Are Sienna and Selina too similar for cousins?

In your honest opinion - I know everyone is free to choose the same name, if they want. However, if you were the sort of person to be bothered about this sort of thing, would you think they were a bit too alike?

For cousins? Not sisters? Wouldn’t even cross my mind

Workawayxx · 01/04/2024 20:54

Definitely not too similar for cousins. I probably wouldnt choose for sisters.

Geebray · 01/04/2024 20:55

Yes they are far too similar. You would probably be drummed out of your family.

Wigeon · 01/04/2024 20:55

Not at all! Those names are quite different. DD's (female) name is one letter different to her (male) cousin and it's fine! 😀

olympicsrock · 01/04/2024 21:04

It’s fine

Berlinlover · 01/04/2024 21:06

No, not all.

Kitkat1523 · 01/04/2024 21:26

Absolutely fine ….there are 15 cousins in our family ….2 boys have the same name….and also 2 of the girls

alphabettispagetti · 01/04/2024 21:28

What nicknames will they be known by? Will they be the same? I doubt it but I've never met a Selina. All of the Siennas that I know are "SiSi" and I guess that Selina could be known as "SiSi" too

LizzieBet14 · 01/04/2024 21:32

No, it's fine.

Aglassaday · 01/04/2024 21:44

Absolutely not, if you love it go for it!

Maybe the only reason it would be considered by some a little bit similar if they are the only cousins each other have/only grandchildren in the family

Riverlee · 01/04/2024 21:47

Cousins - fine.

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/04/2024 22:24

Not too alike at all for cousins

Allthingsdecember · 01/04/2024 22:25

No, not at all. They are completely different names.

TheLoupGarou · 01/04/2024 22:28

My cousin and I have names with 1 letter difference- think along the lines of Lara and Cara. Its totally fine. Everyone calls you the wrong name forever of course when we are together m, but that also happens to my other cousin (name unrelated)...

SprinkledGlitter · 01/04/2024 22:46

Thanks everyone

Not at all, I wouldn’t even make the connection

MariaVT65 · 02/04/2024 02:51

I don’t even think they are similar full stop.

AshleighG · 02/04/2024 12:00

I wouldn't think so. One of my cousins has a Laila and the other has a lyla, both born 2 weeks apart and it's never been an issue

Thanks for everybody's opinions.

As everyone else has said, not too similar at all for cousins. Lots of cousins even have the same name in bigger families

Timotaylor · 03/04/2024 14:30

I know cousins Will and William, William never gets shortened it’s never been a problem.

Nah, it’s definitely fine for cousins. Grandparents might occasionally call them the wrong name by accident ( half my cousins have names starting with the same letter so this happens a lot in my family) but it’s no big deal.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if someone used them for sisters ( though they wouldn’t pass the “calling up the stairs test”) as they are obviously different names, just sharing some sounds.

No, Selina will be shortened to Lina and Sienna to SiSI so definitely won’t be mistaken.
