Half French, to be born in UK

I fancy Isobel, known as Iso (Eezo) in French but French family pushing for Isabelle.

Thoughts?

I like Isobel best, personally.

CreateYourOwnUsername · 01/04/2024 19:53

I prefer Isobel, but don't mind either spelling.

OdeToBarney · 01/04/2024 19:54

Isobel. Nearly named my DD the same!

Xylophonics · 01/04/2024 19:54

Isobel

ShanghaiDiva · 01/04/2024 19:55

Isobel

CutiePatooties · 01/04/2024 19:56

Isobel

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 01/04/2024 19:57

Isabelle is the nicest

GlobetrottingPercy · 01/04/2024 19:57

Isabel or Isobel are both nice, I would probably go Isobel

orangeafter · 01/04/2024 19:57

I prefer Isobel because it's shorter, and it is exactly how it sounds.

Isabelle and similar become more difficult to remember the spelling and I just don't think look as good. But let's face it, it probably doesn't really matter that much ☺️

Geebray · 01/04/2024 19:58

It's a bit like calling a child Mia, or Jade, or Chloe. There will be at least three of them in her class, whatever the spelling.

ChanelNo19EDT · 01/04/2024 19:58

Same,my favourite spelling is Isobel.
Isabelle a bit to frilly a spelling it won't matter much though.

amiahoarder · 01/04/2024 19:58

My name Isobel, married to myself...I named my daughter this spelling. There are lots of Isabelles but few/no Isobels.

TimesChangeAgain · 01/04/2024 19:58

I prefer Isabelle personally!

amiahoarder · 01/04/2024 20:37

You could compromise with Isobelle!

theduchessofspork · 01/04/2024 21:10

It’s a bit random to use Isobel if you’re French

I prefer the simple Isabel personally - so either that or Isabelle

theduchessofspork · 01/04/2024 21:11

amiahoarder · 01/04/2024 20:37

You could compromise with Isobelle!

She is not going to thank you for that.

Claloulat · 01/04/2024 21:30

Personally, I prefer Isabelle. However, if you like Isobel then that's how you should spell it. It's your baby and your decision. Your family don't get a say in your child's name or how it's spelled.

lavagal · 01/04/2024 21:32

Just wondering if these are pronounced differently

IsObel or IsAbel

abracadabra1980 · 01/04/2024 21:33

Isobel - to me, this spelling is classic.

ShoNuff · 01/04/2024 21:35

If you’re French, then Isabelle.

UnicornMamma · 01/04/2024 21:37

If you prefer Isobel then use that.

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/04/2024 22:57

Isabelle but then one of DD's has that name so I may be biased!

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/04/2024 22:58

Oh and word to the wise.....doesnt matter which one you choose, most people will assume its one of the two you DIDNT choose when writing cards emails etc!

OopsieeDaisy · 01/04/2024 23:01

I like Isabelle the best, it looks much prettier imo however I do think you should go with your preferred spelling regardless of what family think!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/04/2024 00:33

Gorgeous name. Personally I much prefer the simpler look of Isabel or Isobel too but honestly? Unless she’s going to be living in Scotland ( then maybe Isobel is fine), as she is half French I’d personally stick with the Isabelle spelling -as it’s the most popular spelling in England as well as in France. I think it would make life easier for her.
