Can’t choose a name

Fifi80 · 30/03/2024 15:26

Selecting a boy’s name is spiralling out of control now that baby is here. Too many options that we keep changing. By “we” I mean “I” as DH is ok with most names. We’re testing a different name each day but I’m afraid to regret my selection. In two days baby needs to be registered so that puts a positive pressure.

The shortlist:
Joseph (Joey) Samuel/Saul
Michael (Mick) Saul
Oliver Saul
Samuel - missing a cute nn

Have any of you been in this stage? Any suggestions on how you made up your mind? Please help before we register him as “baby” 😂

What about Sal as nickname for Samuel?

I like Oliver Saul and Samuel.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/03/2024 15:31

Michael

Riverlee · 30/03/2024 15:32

My mil once said to me, toss a coin, and before it lands, you’ll know the name as you’ll be hoping it lands on that name. Obviously only works if you have a choice of two names.

RoundRedRobin · 30/03/2024 15:34

congratulations!

Samuel is a strong name (nn Sammy when little?)

I like Samuel Joseph as a full name

Olika · 30/03/2024 15:36

Samuel Joseph

Riverlee · 30/03/2024 15:37

If none of these names work, can you go back to square one. Watch a tv programme and scroll down the credits to see if any name fits that you hadn’t thought of

Richard - Rich , Richie
Daniel - Dan, Danny
Matthew , Natt, Marty
Robert - Robbie, Rob

i think all fit your vibe
or Sullivan nn Saul
Donovon Donny

Samuel - Sam, Sammy

Nicebloomers · 30/03/2024 15:40

I like Joseph Saul.

Save Samuel for potential baby boy #2.

Congratulations on your baby!

Pinkbonbon · 30/03/2024 15:41

The shorter the better. Less for him to have to fill out on every form, forever.

Bluepangreen · 30/03/2024 15:48

Samuel nn Sammy or Joseph

DuchessOfSausage · 30/03/2024 16:24

Joseph (Joey) Samuel/Saul - Joey is a baby kangaroo. Joseph Samuel is nice but Samuel Joseph is nicer.
Michael (Mick) Saul - ok
Oliver Saul - ok
Samuel - missing a cute nn - Sam

I like Saul as a first name and am generally not keen on diminutives, but I do like Sam.

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/03/2024 16:31

I love Samuel Joseph (Sam as nn)
Joseph Samuel would be my second choice.
I also really like Oliver Saul - if you don’t mind how popular Oliver is
Michael / Mick is a good classic, a bit retro but familiar and not far off a come back maybe?

TheIcecreamManCometh · 30/03/2024 16:35

Joseph Samuel

There you go.

Another vote for Joseph Samuel! Although I do actually prefer Joey on its own (I know I’m in the minority with this one 🤣) because I can still see Joey working for all ages.

Newsenmum · 30/03/2024 17:53

You put Joseph first so go with it. You probably like it best.

I have teenage DS called Matthew & would think you were talking to someone else if you called him Natt or Marty......

NoelJo · 30/03/2024 18:00

I like Samuel best

mathanxiety · 30/03/2024 18:05

Samuel Joseph, Sam for short.

Fifi80 · 01/04/2024 05:34

Finally made a decision and went with Joseph Saul. Thank you everyone for your input. Very helpful and much appreciated.

Lovely ❤️

LightDrizzle · 01/04/2024 12:36

Lovely names. I’ve only known nice Josephs and Joes.

timoteigirl · 01/04/2024 15:30

I don't like Saul for the same reason as I don't like Ophelia.

Samuel or Daniel. Benjamin as a middle name. What did you decide?

Fifi80 · 01/04/2024 15:41

@timoteigirl lovely suggestions. My first son is Benjamin and my sister is Danielle ;)

At the end we chose Joseph Saul. I’ve been calling him baby Joey and it stuck, couldn’t see him as anything else but baby Joey.
