One or two middle names?

We’re due with our little boy very soon, but we still haven’t made a decision on middle names.

We have a friend who passed away called Thomas, so we would like to honour him by using Thomas as a middle spot. However, I typically like a longer middle name (both my daughters have 4 syllable middle names) so Thomas almost doesn’t feel complete.

His first name will be Asher. I also think because Thomas is quite a common middle name, to anyone who doesn’t know why we chose it it might seem a little basic. The options are go for Asher Thomas, or go for something a little longer after Asher - such as Asher Theodore Thomas.

What are your thoughts on two middle names?

Asher Theodore Thomas sounds lovely. I think two middle names are fine, and it means you can honour your friend and still give your little boy a name that fits with your family tradition of longer syllable middle names.

I like one. Two is overdone to me.

I like Asher Thomas.

One is enough

2 of my dc have 2 middle names. The rest have 1. Each suits their names... What is your surname initial?. Could assist your decision...

I normally prefer one but in your circumstances I think the two would work well.

I really don't think it matters either way.

I don't think anyone else on earth is going to give any thought to your child's middle name/s. No-one will think just Thomas is 'basic', no-one will care if he has two (apart from maybe the other kids?).

Just do whatever you want!

Say the name in full and see if the extra name seems to add or detract.
Asher Thomas Berry is good
Asher Theodore Thomas Berry is too much
