No!

one is Do-row-thee the next is Do-row-thee-a.

i love Dorothea

WYorkshireRose · 30/03/2024 08:01

No...

Dorothy = doh-row-thee
Dorothea = doh-row-thee-ah

GoodOldEmmaNess · 30/03/2024 08:04

Not pronounced the same. I love Dorothea as it makes me think of the young woman in Middlemarch. Dorothy is nice too, though. And Dot is a sweet shortening.

Swearwolf · 30/03/2024 08:04

I also know a Dorothea pronounced Do-ro-TAY-a.

oldnorsesaga · 30/03/2024 08:05

Dorothea pronounced Do-ro-Tay-a is how I pronounce it, but I'm not English speaker.

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/03/2024 08:24

As pp said, Dorr-o-thee, and dorr-o-THEE-a

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/03/2024 08:26

Both lovely names. I prefer Dorothea as it makes me think of Dot in the Swallows and Amazons series, who is a brilliant character.

Me too but the t in tay is more of a ff with a t shape sound

Love Dorothea as a name. In English th sound is pronounced as whereas my relative who was German pronounced it as tea sound. Pretty in both though!

Was going to post exactly this!

Fabulous names. I've met ones of each over the years with both /t/ and th depending where they're from. A Dorota as well which I think is a variant.

Catsanddogs30 · 30/03/2024 12:33

Many thanks.
