Hello,

Baby girl no 2 due next week, we can't agree on a name for her. We have a short list of names we both like but we can't agree on what her name will be. Big sister is Abigail.

Our short list is
Hannah
Jessica
Beth
Lydia

Any advice or suggestions very welcome.

Jessica is lovely. All your choices are but in the same vein, how about:
Matilda
Florence
Eloise
Rosalind (Rosa)
Charlotte
Harriet
Phoebe

Love Beth, it’s a timeless classic but not so much of a fan of the others which all feel quite 90s/early 00s. Lydia has a very harsh and unpleasant sound to it.

SplodgeOfCustard · 27/03/2024 15:11

I like all your choices except Lydia. Probably because of the Lydia Chlamydia rhyming thing.

Other suggestions would be: -

Sarah
Emily
Sophie
Faye
Fern
Ellen

As soon as I saw the title I was going to suggest Jessica as I think Abigail & Jessica go so nicely together!

Also like Lydia very much and the other two names are also very pretty

Another name which I think matches nicely with Abigail is Julia

LardoBurrows · 27/03/2024 15:16

The minute I saw the title my mind immediately said Jessica, then I read your opening post and saw your list and lo and behold Jessica was 2nd on the list. So despite liking your other suggestions, I am sticking with Jessica as my favourite.

I'm biased as I have a Jessica. If I had another girl she would be an Abigail. I think the names go really well together.
I also like Beth on your list.
Hannah is nice but not as strong as your other choices IMO.

theduchessofspork · 27/03/2024 20:01

Lydia

The others with Abigail are Very Christian

Jessica is just right - the only other name that sprang to mind was Rebecca.

IncompleteSenten · 27/03/2024 20:12

I think another biblical name would work well
Eg
Miriam
Naomi
Sarah
Jemima
Esther
Zara
Georgia
Tabatha

Nicebloomers · 28/03/2024 09:34

Bethany or Hannah

WimpoleHat · 28/03/2024 09:37

I know a very lovely young Abigail, whose sister is called Lucy. (And an older one, whose sister is called Amanda.). Will you shorten it? I have a friend who is Abigail and always known as Gail, whereas I know a lot of the youngsters are Abi - and that may make a difference too.

Theoldwoman · 28/03/2024 12:55

Abigail and Lydia.

Suggestions:

Abigail and Violet
Abigail and Chloe
Abigail and Laura
Abigail and Tessa
Abigail and Frances
Abigail and Kate
Abigail and Jasmin

Huh? Lydia is a Biblical name but Jessica (unless you count Yiskah) and Beth (unless short for Elizabeth) aren't? If she wants to avoid a Biblical theme she'd be better off with one of those two. Lydia and Hannah are much more directly biblical. But, as all 4 names can be linked to Biblical names, maybe it's deliberate.

I love Hannah and Jessica. Not sure I could choose a favourite out of the two. Less keen on Lydia and Beth.

KirstenBlest · 28/03/2024 17:55

Abigail, Hannah and Beth are derived from Hebrew @theduchessofspork but not particularly Christian other than Lydia.

Jessica is from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.

Susannah or Christina would go with Abigail IMO.

mathanxiety · 28/03/2024 19:00

Jessica and Hannah are lovely. I'd choose Jessica of the two.

Suggestions:
Caroline
Susannah
Josephine
Elizabeth
Lucy
Naomi
Zoe
Cecelia
