Love it

Absym · 25/03/2024 12:14

Sadly it just reminds me of Dylan Mulvaney now.

Fifi80 · 25/03/2024 12:15

I should have mentioned, for a boy 😊

Middle-aged Welsh man's name.

PoppingTomorrow · 25/03/2024 12:28

The Welsh pronunciation?

Moorlander · 25/03/2024 12:31

Well my DS is Dylan so I clearly love it! He's a teenager now. We chose it because of my Welsh heritage and my husband's love of Bob Dylan!

AIstolemylunch · 25/03/2024 12:31

I love it because I have a teenage Dylan. We live outside London and have no Welsh connection. Strangely, he is still the only Dylan we have ever come across, through primary, secondary and now uni. I thought it would end up being more popular. He knows a few with the Asian heritage spelling of Dilan. He likes it and nobody has ever said anything negative.

Like all names, it gets shortened by mates - in his case to Dyl or Dips or Dippo, no idea on the latter two.

AIstolemylunch · 25/03/2024 12:32

He was also after my Dad's love of Bob Dylan, who sadly died shortly before he was born.

EverybodyLTB · 25/03/2024 12:36

I love it, always loved the sound of it and the way it looks written down. It went through I popular phase something like 30 years ago, but has remained smart and classic IMO and is ready to be used again! Maybe an OTT way of thinking about a name, but some names are stuck in an era, or overused, or boring. Dylan is lovely, to me.

Elphame · 25/03/2024 12:38

We considered it but rejected it on account that it wouldn't be pronounced the Welsh way and that would have annoyed me.

PutASpellOnYou · 25/03/2024 12:41

My sons friend is called Dylan, lovely name and lovely young man, they call him Dyl for short.

pontipinemum · 25/03/2024 12:42

@Elphame what's the Welsh way? I'm Irish and only know 2. Both called 'Dill-an/un'

I like the name

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/03/2024 12:45

Love it!

Mintearo7 · 25/03/2024 12:46

It’s okay. I’m British Indian and it’s a very popular name amongst the same community. Mainly because it transcends cultures, and Dhillon is an Indian surname so the old people are used to saying it (many names are picked on how easy it is for the old Indian people to say!)

DaNiYmaOHyd · 25/03/2024 12:47

@Elphame , Dylan is an old Welsh name pronounced DULL-ann.

Yup.

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/03/2024 12:54

For those of us of a certain age, Dylan will always be a spaced out rabbit on a magic roundabout…lol

DaNiYmaOHyd · 25/03/2024 13:04

Dylan was extremely popular in Wales in the 1960s and 1970s so it seems like a 'dad name'
I thought the Magic Roundabout rabbit was Dillon. (wiki says otherwise)

StarsOnAMat · 25/03/2024 13:07

I love it. Wanted it for my boys but couldn’t persuade DH either time. My mum associates it with the Magic Roundabout but I always think of Dylan from Casualty when I hear it.

AIstolemylunch · 25/03/2024 13:16

My mum always says that about Magic Roundabout to my son. He just smiles politely and nods. He has no idea what she is talking about😁given it hasn't been on tv for 50 years.

Equally teenagers barley watch TV now and I just askw him if he'd ever watched casualty and he'd never heard of it.

I asked him if he could think of any famous associations with someone called Dylan and he said some YouTuber I have never heard of.

Name associations are very different across the generations and I think if you call a baby anything now it's almost irrelevant what people 2 or 3 generations before think of it.

That dipshit Dylan Mulvaney is annoying, I grant you, sooner he fades into obscurity the better.

TM1979 · 25/03/2024 13:22

It’s a very cool name!

DaftFlerken · 25/03/2024 14:01

Not sure why you are tagging me?

I know how it is pronounced in Welsh however DS would have been forever correcting people who use the English pronunciation (even here in Wales) and it would have been never ending.
