We are trying to choose between these three names. All have a family association.

George is so popular it puts me off, I can think of 6 off the top of my head. There are also 3 in my DC’s year at school. All get lumped with their last name so you know which is which.

Same with Jack. Anthony is ok but are you ok with Ant or Tony as nicknames?

Theoldwoman · 24/03/2024 14:04

George.

theduchessofspork · 24/03/2024 14:05

Anthony because the other two are so overdone

If you don’t like Tony (and I think it’s too early to revive) you might have to impose Anton or Anto

Saying that, of the 3 Anthonys I know well, two are just Anthony and one is Anto

It’s a great name

Moreteaandchocolate · 24/03/2024 14:10

George - my favourite boys name :)

I like Jack too.

Not so keen on Anthony

PeachPoet · 24/03/2024 14:12

Jack or George are lovely.
Antony you’d have to like Ant or Tony, which I personally don’t

PutASpellOnYou · 24/03/2024 14:13

George is my favourite.

FayCarew · 24/03/2024 14:15

George. I know lots of Jacks. use Anthony as a middle name unless you like Ant (I don't) or Tony. Anthony sometimes gets said with a TH if that's an issue.

GreyhoundGal1 · 24/03/2024 16:08

I like Anthony as it feels the freshest out of the three. George would be second but very popular.

yoshiblue · 24/03/2024 16:22

George and Jack both so overused!

I like Anthony because it's different to be honest, but agree you need to be happy with the nicknames!

Orangeandnavy · 24/03/2024 16:26

George 100%
Jack is so so so common. Wasn’t it top name for a decade or something?
Anthony is fine. As PP says though the short versions are not great.

FayCarew · 24/03/2024 16:38

About 20 years, I think, @Orangeandnavy . Nearly 11,000 of them registered in 1996. Didn't drop out of the top 10 names until 2021.
Add to that, some will be John or maybe Jacob/Jakob on the BC, and some will be Jack-something, Jac or Jak.

BoleynMemories13 · 24/03/2024 16:56

George and Jack are popular for a reason, both are handsome timeless classics. Anthony is so dull. I totally disagree with the poster above who described it as the freshest of the three. Least popular definitely doesn't automatically equate to 'fresh' imo. Anthony is middle name only fodder for me.

Jack Anthony or George Anthony would both work. If popularity does both you, Jack is the one of the two on a downward trend so there will statistically be less of them his own age.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 24/03/2024 16:59

Anthony is nice.
George and Jack are like saying ‚child number x‘ so common and tedious.

itsgettingweird · 24/03/2024 17:05

I'd go for

Antony Jack or
Antony George or
George Antony

That way you get more than 1 name in!

Daffodilsarentfluffy · 24/03/2024 17:07

Maybe consider nn /shortenings..amd the letter of your surname..

FayCarew · 24/03/2024 17:44

Try them with the surname. One will probably sound better than the others.
e.g. Jack Jones, George Jones, Anthony Jones, Ant Jones, Tony Jones.
