Francesca’s brother or sister?

Namehelpppp · 23/03/2024 09:32

Looking for some timeless names for a sibling to Francesca!

I’d like something traditional yet uncommon whilst also being quite modern sounding. Something that doesn’t immediately conjure up the age of somebody.

Currently in the running are:
Margot
Sophia
Penelope
Mila

Henry
Jacob
Theodore

but none really stand out. Some are quite high up in too baby names lists this year which also puts me off.

Would love to hear opinions on the above too?

Lucia, Emilia

Albie, Jonah

i like the names you picked except Margot (sounds like a 50 year old) and Jacob (nots of naughty kids in my daughter’s school called Jacob)

Moreteaandchocolate · 23/03/2024 09:50

Margot - I think this might date badly unfortunately because of its sudden rise in popularity
Sophia - beautiful as long as you don’t mind the popularity
Penelope - lovely
Mila - love how short, simple and pretty this is - a great choice imo

Henry - great name
Jacob - love this - not ridiculously overused either
Theodore - great name if you don’t mind the popularity

Other ideas -

Gabriella
Georgia / Georgina
Caroline
Madeleine
Harriet
Natasha
Beatrice
Alice
Jessica
Eloise
Matilda
Annabel
Vivienne
Lucia
Lydia
Clara
Martha
Rosalie
Imogen
Helena

Francesca is lovely and would go perfectly with Lucia or Emilia.

I love Henry and Jacob from your list, but whilst Theodore is ok, it’s really overused where I live just now (maybe not the case everywhere though). Luca would also go well with Francesca.

William

KirstenBlest · 23/03/2024 13:15

Margot - likely to be far more popular than you think
Sophia - overused, especially if you include Sofia
Penelope - popular on here
Mila - disappears into all the Mia, Maya, Maia, Lila, Leila type names

Henry - top 10 name
Jacob - not unusual and will be Jake
Theodore - with Theo massively overused

Suggestions: Margaretta, Stella, Jennifer, Sebastian, Richard

MaloneMeadow · 23/03/2024 13:48

The Francescas we know have Reuben, Jago & Isabella as siblings

Youdontknowmedoyou · 23/03/2024 14:17

Rodolphin or Laurence for a boy.
Ariella for a girl.

MKWarrier · 23/03/2024 14:33

I know loads of Margots - probably met more of them than any other baby name at various groups in the last two years. Yet to meet a Francesca! Beautiful name - it was on our list for a while.

Of your choices I think Penelope is the best fit with Francesca for a girl. Mila is nice but not quite in Francesca's league.

I like all your boy names but they are all reasonably popular, which it sounds like you're not keen on.

Francesca and Genevieve

The names on your lists are lovely!

My favourite sibling name combos from your lists would be

Francesca and Penelope
and
Francesca and Theodore

theduchessofspork · 23/03/2024 20:43

There are millions of Margots, Sophias, Henrys and Theodores so I’d avoid those, nice though they all are

I like Jacob, like Penelope too - but I don’t like Penny so I wouldn’t

Mila is very insubstantial/made up compared to the elegant and culturally rich Francesca (and slightly makes me think of that skin condition)

Maybe..

Just not Raffy, Raffi or Raphael. There's 3 out of about 20 boys where I work!

fevertotell · 26/03/2024 07:18

Hugo goes well with Francesca.

Or Charlotte

norfolkbeaches · 26/03/2024 12:40

Penelope and Theodore are really popular at the moment. Theo's are everywhere and Penelope is still on the increase, although both are lovely names. The Francesca I know has a sibling Madeleine. Known as Fran and Maddie.
Charlotte goes nicely too, both long and sophisticated but you can go soft short names: Cesca and Lottie
or more punchy: Frankie and Charlie
