Due next month. Was totally settled on Otis and now I’ve gone off it so starting from scratch. This is our list of names we agree on:

George
Henry
Harrison
Miles
Freddie
Maximilian

George...fine, solid name. Always been popular and for a reason. Won't date

Henry... similar vibe...nice enough

Harrison... dislike immensely. I find it a bit downmarket in all honesty but I think I'm probably in the minority

Miles... absolutely dreadful, pseudo posh.

Freddie...love as a nickname for Frederick.

Maximilian...love Max but I prefer Maxwell to Maximilian

SkaneTos · 18/03/2024 22:34

They are all nice names!

My favourites would be Miles and Maximilian.

(Otis is a nice name, too!)

Moreteaandchocolate · 18/03/2024 22:35

George - my favourite boys name!
Maximilian - love this too!
Henry - also great.
Freddie - lovely (prefer as short for Frederick)
Miles - a good name
Harrison - nice, but slightly less traditional than your other choices when used as a first name (if that matters to you)

Needmorelego · 18/03/2024 22:38

Miles I like.
Max I like - but just Max. Not Maximilian (or Maxwell).
The others I'm not excited about 🙂

FayCarew · 18/03/2024 22:39

In order of preference:
Maximilian - if shortened to Max
Miles - but I don't like Myles
George
Henry
Freddie - don't like Fred
Harrison - surname, prefer Harry
Otis - don't like it at all

Margo2023 · 18/03/2024 22:41

All great names. In order I would probably go George, Harrison, Freddie. I really like Harris which I guess is similar to Otis so maybe another idea there.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/03/2024 22:41

George. Good strong masculine classic undatable name but I don't like it.
Henry (See George)
Harrison. Naughty name parents let him do as he pleases and would rip the Teachers head off if she dare even think about disciplining their spirited little Harrison. They wouldn't deny his behaviour, they just wouldn't give a shit.
Miles. Nothing wrong with it but I don't like it.
Freddie. Fab name. Glad to be positive.
Maximilian. Unless you're upper upper class and talk with a plum in your mouth. Its just trying to be something you're not. What's wrong with just Max. Hasn't Katie Hopkins got a Maximilian.
Incidentally I adore Otis.

Ooh Harris is quite nice. The only thing putting me off Harrison is that I think it sounds like a surname more than a first name so this could be an option!

I still love Otis - I just think it sounds lovely in my partners accent and horrible in mine (Geordie so it comes out oh-iss) and when people have asked babies name they quite often need me to repeat it a few times before they’ve caught on 😅😅

My favourites by far are Miles and Henry, although I much prefer the Myles spelling

Geppili · 18/03/2024 23:09

Miles all the way.

Ellmau · 18/03/2024 23:14

George - good solid name, not very exciting but maybe that's a good thing
Henry - ditto
Harrison - too surnamey for me
Miles - really like
Freddie - not keen, feels too abbreviated
Maximilian - love

Motherofsnakes · 18/03/2024 23:18

They're all nice names. Freddie my least favourite, although a lovely name I think because its a shortened name/Frederick.

My fave is Miles because I think it suits a child and adult well and is a simple but strong name.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/03/2024 23:22

George - meh. A bit boring but ok.
Henry - as above
Harrison - ok
Miles - don’t mind this
Freddie - I like Freddie but hate Fredrick
Maximilian - sounds really try hard. Max is nice though.

FayCarew · 18/03/2024 23:22

Which one sounds best with the surname?

HoHoHoliday · 18/03/2024 23:28

George - a timeless classic, will never go out of fashion and will suit your son whatever age he is.

Henry - same as above, can't go wrong with George or Henry.

Harrison - I have a personal dislike of surnames as first names.

Miles - I just don't like it for no particular reason.

Freddie - Fred is lovely, or Frederick, but to me Freddie is only good for a baby, once older he deserves a solid name.

Maximilian - I actually love this name in full but I dislike Max, and it will inevitably get shortened to Max which is a shame.

MuggedByReality · 18/03/2024 23:28

George & Henry are as classic as names get. Classic names can also be seen as boring, of course.

Harrison - I’m not a fan of surnames as given names.

Miles - I like this name. Possible 80s public school vibe?

Freddie - excellent name.

Maximillian - Will inevitably be known as Max, which is fine.

User6761 · 18/03/2024 23:30

I like Max and Freddie. Love Harris but dislike Harrison. Myles is ok. Nothing wrong with the others, just not my taste.

OatFlatWhiteForMe · 18/03/2024 23:32

George - lovely classic name
Henry - likewise, can’t go wrong- classic
Harrison - not a fan
Miles - pompous
Freddie - I would opt for Frederick and shorten to Freddie or Fred
Maximilian - will be Max within a short time, but that’s not a bad thing

PlipPlopChoo · 18/03/2024 23:55

George - ok
Henry - nice
Harrison - nice
Miles - nice
Freddie - so so
Maximilian - It's a bit wanky

Runemum · 18/03/2024 23:55
  1. Miles
  2. Maximilian-if shortened to Max
  3. Freddie as a nickname for Frederick
  4. Henry
  5. Harrison
  6. George-not keen on this name
DinnaeFashYersel · 18/03/2024 23:56

Like George and Henry

Meh to the rest

Berlinlover · 18/03/2024 23:57

Finally a list of normal names. Harrison is my favourite.

George or Henry - dull but safe
Harrison - USA name. I just think Harrison Ford. It's a sort of weird name in the UK, like calling your daughter Widdicombe.
Miles - conjures up 20-something estate agent
Freddie - Frederick hmm, but birth certificate Freddie, no, even though we know he'll never be Frederick and will always be Fred or Freddy or Freddie (which all sound a bit feeble)
Maximilian - a mouthful, and will be forever Max, and it has a cringey would-be alpha male vibe.

Snap! My thoughts exactly.

I’m not keen on Henry at all. No idea why not, just the sound of it. Harrison is the the new Tyler. I think it will date in the same way.
