I posted about Francis not so long ago, is Franklin a nicer version or are my pregnancy hormones playing tricks on me?

is Franklin too American / surnamey?

I much prefer Frank. I think Franklin does sound a bit American but I love Frank.

winewolfhowls · 16/03/2024 08:33

It makes me feel americany sorry.

Does it have to start with an f?

I like teddy (Edward), if you wanted to still have a bit of American vibes.

cariadlet · 16/03/2024 08:43

Makes me think of FDR.

Great man, one of the best presidents that the US ever had but not a name I would saddle a kid with.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/03/2024 08:54

I don't think it's a bad 'Americany' name though. Nothing like using a random British placename etc.

While the first association I have on seeing the word alone is a surname (Rosalind, obviously) the second is FDR and for many it'd be the other way round so no, I don't think it's too surnamey.

Personally I prefer Francis but Franklin and Frank are fine too, it's a matter of personal preference rather than there being a real negative to any of them.

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/03/2024 09:31

I agree with pp that it’s a personal preference thing - Francis, Franklin and Frank are all good names.

For my personal taste I like Frank on its own best.

I know more women than men called Francis, but I know that’s just my personal association and there are more boys than girls called Francis these days.

Franklin sounds good but more trendy to me and so doesn’t fit quite as well with the names of my other children.

Francis
Franklin
Frank

They are classic and lovely names, all three of them.

KirstenBlest · 16/03/2024 15:36

@Moreteaandchocolate , the girl's name is Frances not Francis.
I don't like Franklin. Frank and Francis are ok.

Binfire · 16/03/2024 18:27

I know a little Frankie who’s full name is Franklin, it’s lovely and not too American. My Dad’s middle name was Francis so I like that too but Franklin feels a bit more modern and knowing a female Frances well I’d go for Franklin. Best of luck deciding, it’s all subjective and there are no wrong decisions.

Pjmasksonrepeat · 16/03/2024 18:42

I know a Franklin who is a teenager now. I like the name. Gives him options in the future as Franklin, Frank, Franklin etc

Roselilly36 · 16/03/2024 19:03

Love it.

Bali200 · 17/03/2024 16:22

I love it, it was on my boys name list but I’m expecting a girl.

QueenBitch666 · 17/03/2024 21:20

Freewheelin' Franklin! I love it! ( Furry Freak Brothers 😎 )

RichPetunia · 17/03/2024 21:23
