I’m due our first baby girl in a few weeks and I’m stuck on our favorite name. We have whittled it down so far to

Rosie
Eliza

also like:
Charlotte
Felicity
Phoebe

Please let me know your thoughts or any similar suggestions!

I love both Rosie and Eliza

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/03/2024 22:36

Both names are lovely but I love Rosie best - it’s a simple, pretty name that’s great for all ages.

I also really like Phoebe (but prefer Rosie and Eliza)

I like Charlotte, but I’m not so keen on Charlie.

I personally find Felicity a bit fussy as a full name and I think the short versions are lovely for children but don’t work so well for adults (imo).

Other ideas -

Harriet
Georgia
Alice
Imogen
Madeleine
Eloise

Eliza! Love it and not overly popular where I am but I know a lot of Rosie’s under 5!

crumblinecentral · 13/03/2024 22:57

You say "first baby girl" - are there other boy siblings?

Just asking in case that affects choice.

IMHO I like (and know a few lovely) Rosies

Eliza feels like it has been cut off at the knees - go full on Elizabeth - or not at all.

Felicity - all good if you are into ole worlde connotations

Phoebe - guess it's due a resurgence but won't be long (I know first wave Phoebes who are now 18)

I personally like Charlotte as there are many ways to "own" the name but wouldn't choose it as it it feels a bit "flat" these days

I prefer Rose to Rosie. Or Rosemary. Rosie feels a bit informal to me; a bit twee.

Rose is lovely, elegant - the diminutive Rosie is twee
Elizabeth is solid, and better than Eliza
Charlotte is unoriginal but classic and pretty
Felicity - I like a few virtue names, but Felicity isn't one of them
Phoebe - okay-ish, but glad my name isn't Phoebe (or Felicity)

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 14/03/2024 01:27

Not Charlotte

BoleynMemories13 · 14/03/2024 06:49

I much prefer Eliza. Second choice would be Charlotte, then Phoebe.

Rosie is quite infantile. I'd definitely go for Rose nn Rosie if you do choose this. I still prefer the others though.

Eliza and Elizabeth are different names imo. Just like Rosemary and Rose, Evelyn and Eve etc. It's definitely not just a short form of Elizabeth so I don't understand the comments about it feeling cut of. It's not like it's pronounced Eh-liz-ah! Eh-lie-zah is a beautiful name in it's own right.

DuchessOfSausage · 14/03/2024 06:53

Rosie - a bit twee. Not keen on Rose.
Eliza - Not keen. Prefer Elizabeth
Charlotte - safe. Don't like Charlie for a girl. Not good if t sounds are dropped
Felicity - too long
Phoebe - nice but I don't like Feebs

Suggestions: Katie, Elizabeth, Harriet, Flora, Constance, Verity

SkaneTos · 14/03/2024 17:11

I voted for Eliza, but they are both lovely names!

MKWarrier · 14/03/2024 19:01

I like all of these - I voted Rosie but I would probably use it as a shorter version of one of the longer Rose-based names.

I really like Charlotte and Felicity too and they were on our list for a while, but we ended up taking them off as we don’t like the shortened versions.

TM1979 · 14/03/2024 19:08

Lovely names. I prefer Rose over Rosie though.
Eliza is nice too, I actually suggested that to another poster on here last eerk.
I don’t really like Felicity but it’s not bad either.
