hey guys. Recently came across this name and I've truly fell in love with it and I love that you can have CeCe as a nickname. Curious to as wether people would pronounce it right though.. it's pronounced See-El but I'm worried that people say Seal.. let me know thanks x

I’d say it how you would. I’m not sure how anyone would get Seal from that tbh.

pontipinemum · 13/03/2024 10:55

I thought See-elle not seal. I've never heard the name and it stumped me for a minutes but I am sure most people could go with it

Growlybear83 · 13/03/2024 10:56

It sounds like a brand of bathroom cleaner! 😆😆

Floralnomad · 13/03/2024 10:59

I read it as C-elle , my son went to nursery with a little girl called this 30 yrs ago . I like it , I don’t like cece.

Fibble · 13/03/2024 11:00

isn't that the name of Lid's own brand leaning range?

Hermittrismegistus · 13/03/2024 11:02

It's not a very nice name.

CocoPlum · 13/03/2024 11:03

I like Cece but Cielle sounds like a contraceptive pill.

Obeast · 13/03/2024 11:05

Definitely sounds like a cleaning product.

Sierra, Sienna, Cecelia?

TheBirdintheCave · 13/03/2024 11:06

I imagine this is derived from the word ciel which is French for 'sky'? If so, it's worth pointing out that it isn't used as name in France so she might get some odd looks if she ever goes there.

If you like Cece would Cecelia, Cecily or Cicely not suit?

MirandaBlu · 13/03/2024 11:07

I've come across it before as a shorting of Gracielle - pronounced either S'yel (one syllable) or see-EL (two). I can kind of see Ciel being mispronounced as seal (by an English speaker), but not Cielle.

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 13/03/2024 11:07

My first thought was that it sounds like a contraceptive pill.

DuchessOfSausage · 13/03/2024 11:08

Awful, like a cheap make-up brand name. I don't like CeCe either.

youdontneedtopoo · 13/03/2024 11:17

It doesn't sound like a "real" name to me. Could you have Cecile or Cecily instead if you really need to have CeCe as a nickname? Both beautiful names in their own right.

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/03/2024 11:50

Sorry I’m not keen because it used as a brand name for a couple of things (? Skin care / clothes?) and it’s likely to have pronunciation and spelling issues.

DontGiveADuck · 13/03/2024 12:09

It sounds like the Lidl cleaning brand.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/03/2024 14:43

I'd say it like "ciel", the French word for sky.

MiltonNorthern · 13/03/2024 14:44

It's not a name. It's a bastardised spelling of the French word ciel. It's not a good name.

CrushingOnRubies · 13/03/2024 14:47

No keen

Cielle reminds of the Lidl cleaning brand as pp have said. And could also be a brand of sanitary products or similar

FirstFallopians · 13/03/2024 14:50

My first thought was “Lidl own-brand hand wash”

RobertaFirmino · 14/03/2024 00:59

Sounds like a contraceptive pill

DramaAlpaca · 14/03/2024 01:06

Fibble · 13/03/2024 11:00

It's Cien, but yes that was my first thought too.

Echobelly · 14/03/2024 01:06

@YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty - I thought exactly the same thing!

RogueFemale · 14/03/2024 01:15

There are other names that can have the nickname Cece. This name - Cielle - is awful in my opinion.

Beachs · 14/03/2024 04:46

I first read it (granted whilst in a night feed) as chelle as in the shortened version of Michelle. I love CeCe as a nn but you would be condemning her to a life of spelling and pronouncing it for people

SuperstarDeejay · 14/03/2024 04:49

Are you actually called Deedee in real life OP? Because Deedee and Cece in the same family would be pretty awful. Your husband isn't Peepee by any chance?
