Which do you prefer of these?

We like both but would prefer to have them be the shortened versions, so Zachary or Tobias.. the issue being we like Zachary more than Tobias but Toby more than Zac! Confused

Zac

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/03/2024 00:12

Zac. Toby makes me think of my aunt’s pekinese dog but I appreciate that may be quite niche.

CTW23 · 09/03/2024 00:15

I love Tobias! If you prefer 'Toby', just call him 'Toby'?

OopsieeDaisy · 09/03/2024 00:23

Much prefer both Zachary and Zac!

RichinVitaminR · 09/03/2024 01:19

Zachary is a lovely name 😊 It has the edge for me, although Tobias is a good name too. Definitely Zachary and Zac.

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/03/2024 06:20

Two of my favourite boys names! I like both equally, but agree with you that I prefer Zachary to Tobias, so would choose Zac / Zachary personally. However, if you prefer Toby then definitely go for that as that’s what he’ll be known as day to day. Toby is one of those names that doesn’t feel nicknamey (imo) so you could definitely put Toby on the birth certificate if you’re not keen on Tobias.

Tobias

DuchessOfSausage · 09/03/2024 08:35

I like both. Would Tobes/Tobe bother you?

What sounds best Zac Surname or Toby Surname?

Pleonasmic · 09/03/2024 08:36

Zachary nn Zac or Zach is great OP :)

Katrinawaves · 09/03/2024 08:43

How about Tobin as the long form of Toby?

DuchessOfSausage · 09/03/2024 08:50

I don't think Toby needs a long form if he's only ever going to be known as Toby.

theduchessofspork · 09/03/2024 11:27

I like Zac better

You could have Issac rather than Zachary

Chewbecca · 09/03/2024 11:29

Toby

DuchessOfSausage · 09/03/2024 11:53

@theduchessofspork , does Isaac shorten to Zac? It seems a bit contrived.

OP prefers Zachary to Tobias, so presumably likes Zachary.
Unfortunately, Isaac has the same issue for me as Reuben, the typo version would drive me mad.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/03/2024 11:55

Both lovely but at a push Zac but I’d add a K personally Zack

DuchessOfSausage · 09/03/2024 12:17

I don't like Zack or Zach. The added letter ruins the name.

serin · 09/03/2024 14:16

Zac.
I had an awful dentist called Toby.

Ahhhhhbisto · 09/03/2024 20:23

I am going to start by saying I am bias as I have a Toby who is just a Toby!

In my experience names get shortened by lots of people (friends, relatives, even school staff when the time comes!) chose the name you like the shortened version of the most. That is what is going to be used.

Congratulations!

pixieeyes · 10/03/2024 01:37

Thank you very much all! We went for Zachary, shortened version likely to be Zac Bear
