Husband and I are currently at loggerheads choosing a girls name. I won't say who's chosen what but please help/give opinions?

We already have a little boy, Bobby so ideally a name that sounds nice alongside it, but also trying to keep them both 'nick-namey'.

What names have you chosen?

Caravaggiouch · 08/03/2024 18:21

Either Izzie or something else. I dislike matching initial names for siblings.

tpmumtobe · 08/03/2024 18:23

All nice names in their own right, but I think aliterative siblings sound a bit twee (and I say this with one child with an aliterative name). Is Bobby short for Robert? Robert and Isabelle with Bobby/Izzy as potential nicknames isn't too bad.

OurfriendsintheNE · 08/03/2024 18:23

I’d go for Elizabeth and then use Betsy or Betty as a nickname, whichever one seemed to suit best after she’d arrived. Gives her options when she’s an adult too.

MariaVT65 · 08/03/2024 18:25

Sorry ‘bobby and betty’ together sounds like you’re trying to name your 2 new pet kittens.

I voted Izzie

Violettaa · 08/03/2024 18:28

You can’t have Bobby and Betty/ Betsy unless you’re planning to remake Topsy and Tim.

DrJoanAllenby · 08/03/2024 19:21

Nick names are not really suitable on applications in the corporate environment or don't you think your child will aspire to a professional career.

I love Bobby but Robert is more professional on a job application.

Millie shirt for Millicent.

Is this done on a vote thing? I hate these types of threads because I'm on the app on my phone I can't see them. So annoying I don't know why it's an issue

DontGiveADuck · 08/03/2024 19:48

Izzie but only short for Isabel.

Bobby and Betty/Betsy sound too twee and matchy. I don’t actually like Betsy.

They might want the option of a longer name when they’re older.

MixingPlaydough · 08/03/2024 19:53

Izzie but use Isobel incase she wants the choice when older. Definitely not Betty or Betsy with Bobby it sounds like you're talking about a pair of kittens or bunnies.

TillieAnn1945 · 08/03/2024 19:55

Charlotte/Lottie
Violet/Lettie
Rosie

pictoosh · 08/03/2024 20:01

Bobby and Betty/Betsy is just too twee. I mean yeah, cute...but they might not like the 'matching pair' connotations as older children or adults.

Bobby and Darcy
Bobby and Lottie
Bobby and Jean
Bobby and Nancy
Bobby and Lennie (Leonora)

pictoosh · 08/03/2024 20:08

Bobby and Ella
Bobby and Libby
Bobby and Rosie

17caterpillars1mouse · 08/03/2024 20:13

I ŵould avoid another B name ending g in a y
Way too twee

Izzie is nice though I prefer it spelt Izzy

What about Ettie or Effie? They have a similar vibes to Betsy and Betty

Or not a nickname I guess but have you co sidereal Marnie?

I only ever use the app and can't see the names. It's v annoying.

itsmeagainagain · 08/03/2024 20:23

I voted something else and I think Leila

Moreteaandchocolate · 08/03/2024 20:29

I voted for Izzy (prefer as short for Isabel). Other ideas -

Connie
Edie
Annie
Elsie
Evie
Milly
Molly
Hattie
Lottie

IamaRevenant · 08/03/2024 20:35

Oh not Betty or Betsy, far too twee with Bobby!

Izzy is nice buy there's sooo many.

How about Frankie (I love Francesca too but Frankie is brilliant on its own, one of my faves!), Effie, Tilly, Milly, Lottie, Molly, Gertie, Janey?

FWIW I work in a very corporate job and there really isn't the negative reaction to nicknamey names that most people assume, at least not any more. Same goes for more unusual/unique names. I see/meet/work with all sorts! Time has lived on IME.

Connie, Edie and Hattie are lovely!

DSD9472 · 08/03/2024 20:42

Bobby and Betsy or Betty- sorry but NO.

What about Izelle or Izella? Or Elizabeth? Izzie and your other suggestions sound like nick names?

CuteCillian · 08/03/2024 20:47

I would try to avoid a name that also ends with the matchy "eee" sound.
If you like diminutives, what about Biba, Lila, ZsaZsa,Ava,Ada, Loulou or Delia.

SuperbOwls · 08/03/2024 20:51

Bobby and Betsy/Betty is way too cutesy. Izzy is okay. For the list:

Sylvie
Sadie
Evie
Edie
Poppy

SuperbOwls · 08/03/2024 20:54

Actually I've just realised that these two look like reflections of each other written down, so that might count against them 😂
poppy
bobby

pictoosh · 08/03/2024 20:55

Bobby and Mimi - love that.

Grapesandcheesetwo · 08/03/2024 21:24

Daisy
Rosie
Lacey
Katie
Lucy
Frankie

Betsy is lovely but it's too much with Bobby
