We have narrowed our daughter's name down to Ottilie or Athena and can't decide which to go for! Older siblings are called Leo and Aria... help us please!

Ottilie is my favourite of the two and actually on my list as well!

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/03/2024 14:19

Ottilie is lovely. Never heard of it before!

spidermonkeys · 06/03/2024 14:55

Both beautiful names. Ottilie is my favourite by a tiny bit

Strokethefurrywall · 06/03/2024 14:59

Athena

ChocolateCinderToffee · 06/03/2024 15:00

Ottilie. Athena would be nice but a lot to live up to.

Tinytigertail · 06/03/2024 15:09

I love Athena, but live in London and would really not enjoy it pronounced as 'Afeena' or shortened, as I once heard, to 'Feen'

MrsSamR · 06/03/2024 15:27

Ottilie is quite popular where I am so I'd go for Athena

singswithitsfingers · 06/03/2024 15:28

How are you pronouncing Ottilie?

ab03 · 06/03/2024 15:28

I prefer Ottilie but it is getting pretty popular, so if you care about that then go for Athena, it's also a lovely name :)

Cathbrownlow · 06/03/2024 15:29

I love Ottilie

Ottilie is lovely. Never heard of it before!

You obviously haven’t been on the MN name board much over the past year - it’s everywhere here!!

MaloneMeadow · 06/03/2024 15:30

I prefer Ottilie for sure, fits far better with your other kids names but it’s very ‘of the moment’ and will be dated soon in my opinion

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/03/2024 16:36

I think I prefer Athena, it’s a bit more familiar and easier to pronounce / spell (to me) than Ottilie, and has a simple but pretty sound.

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/03/2024 17:00

Indeed, how right you are @MaloneMeadow because currently only thinking of names for kittens!
I was wondering as to the origin, someone famous recently maybe?

The author DH Lawrence had a friend/patron called Ottolene (spelling?),this is the closest I have heard. Ottilie is a very charming name.

Peaceupatown · 06/03/2024 17:02

Athena! I don’t like Ottilie at all, such a mouthful and makes me think of an otter

feellikeanalien · 06/03/2024 17:04

I like Athena but that's my cat's name so I would go for Ottilie.

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/03/2024 17:04

I think I prefer the French pronunciation, @Vixda .

canttellyouwhereorwhatido · 06/03/2024 17:26

We know an Ottilia .. Ottie . It's my current fave xx

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 06/03/2024 19:27

Ottilie, it’s very pretty but also sounds both cute and sophisticated at the same time

MotherOfVizslas · 06/03/2024 19:57

Athena

IwishIcouldfinishabook · 06/03/2024 20:02

I love Athena. I think it goes well with Aria.

WhereAreWeNow · 07/03/2024 21:06

Athena

theduchessofspork · 08/03/2024 09:39

Athena 💯

herewegoroundtheblueberrybush · 09/03/2024 23:07

Athena by a country mile. Ottilie is so twee but also too much like an otter. And rhymes with bottily

Marcipex · 10/03/2024 00:18

Athena.

I think Otillie will just become Tilly.
I know an Otterly, yes that’s the spelling , who is utterly awful.
