helloo

so I’m having a terrible time picking a name for my daughter need help!
Shiloh was the name I’ve always loved but my partner doesn’t so I don’t know what to do! 😔

i had a dream about someone mentioning that my daughters name would be Elisheva
I would love to know what your first opinion when you first hear this name?

thanks a lot!

Elisheba - Wikipedia
It's much nicer than Shiloh. (for some reason it makes me think Pile o'sh....) Sorry.

Onelife2024 · 29/02/2024 20:43

I hadn’t heard it before, but it could grow on me. It’s got some nice options for short versions - Ellie, Sheva, Lissy maybe?

Personally I love shorter names, so prefer Elissa, Alisha, Alisa etc…

I think Elisheva is a beautiful name!

BarbaricPeach · 01/03/2024 08:50

It's a beautiful name.

My only thought would be that people might ask or assume that your daughter is very Christian (less mainstream Bible name) or Jewish/Israeli (un-anglicised Hebrew name). who Not negative things obviously, but if you aren't part of either community your daughter find it tedious explaining that. I know a Rivkah who is in that situation.

There's a TikToker with that name. She's American, living in the UK. Her content is/was (?) about "Americans in the wild". Basically all the wild shit "dumb" Americans say and do when they are abroad. It's very funny 😅

I don’t think that hearing it in a dream is some kind of sign, if that’s what you’re asking. Your dreams are just collages of random crap that’s on your mind. If you’re particularly preoccupied with choosing a name, it will feature in your dream. I think a pp is right and peoole hearing Elisheva are likely to assume ‘fundamentalist Christian’ or ‘Israeli’, if that’s an issue for you. The only one I’ve come across is Israeli.

Thank you all very interesting responses!

so I am very much Christian and also have Beta Israel heritage, so the connection would be no problem I think.

I love the meaning of the name but I was worried that it would sound to long and harsh,
don’t know maybe is all in my head…

@TheRaptures depends on your beliefs, many people think babies in spirit choose their names and will send messages to influence you, I actually weirdly watched a video on this earlier with lots of people saying they randomly heard their babies name whispered to them, or would come across one particular name constantly. Depends I suppose if you believe in that or are more sceptical

It’s a beautiful name

she might end up another Ellie though, is the only thing..

DSs name came to me in a dream, it wasn’t one we had considered at all but I woke up one morning and said to dh, what do you think of this. He liked it too, and that was that. I had been listening to kids names in shops, playgrounds, on the street, I don’t remember hearing it before the dream. Wherever a name comes from, I think that’s great.

Ive never heard of Elisheva before, I would assume Jewish heritage if I heard it. It’s very pretty. Would probably end up as Ellie unless you encourage a different short version from quite young I would think.

Mulan2023 · 18/03/2024 20:08

@Flopsy145 that’s so interesting and I would totally believe that! could you share a bit more about the thing you watched please am so intrigued!

thank you xx

@Mulan2023 I can't find it to send to you unfortunately I'll have another in a bit but the basics of it was that the spirit that ends up in your child is around you both during and before getting pregnant and they have an idea about what their name is, so they send messages like you see the name everywhere or a name suddenly pops into your head out of thin air that you had never thought about, or some mums who are quite in tune with the spirit realm especially have heard it whispered to them before.
I had loads of names on my list, for 6 months my daughter was going to be lily, then I can't remember where I saw it or how it ended up on my list but Zara suddenly became my firm favourite. When I was about 7 months pregnant I asked the baby (bump) what she wanted her name to be and went through all the names on my list, no movement, got to Zara and she kicked like crazy. I'm very into the witchy stuff so for me this was a clear sign, some sceptics will say it's a coincidence but it's all about what you believe ❤️
