I am looking for a less common Irish boys name. I already have a Pádraig, well know but not very popular, 20/30 per year going by the CSO

In the family we already have Peadar, Fionn, Tadhg, Cathal, Cillian, Seán, Odhran.

If baby is a girl she'll be called Fionnuala.

Also we are Irish living in Ireland. I loved Ruairí the last time but I was worried he would be called Rory a lot.

Beoaodh. Such a brilliant name and I've not met any yet. Don't tell me you have nephew called that already.

Art?

An old Irish name thought to mean "Bear". There were a few kings of Ireland named Art.

@SunnyFog no, not family member with that name. How do you say it? Google just brings up the surname broad

It’s ‘Beo’ and ‘Ay’ to rhyme with ‘hay’. I’ve only ever come across it as a saint associated with a place I only know of because I know someone from nearby who knows I’m interested in holy wells! I think ‘Aodh’ is usually seen as a version of Hugh, and Beo Aodh (lively, active or ‘on the go’ Hugh) was some particularly busy early Irish abbot, I think?

I love Art, but decided Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire was possibly a gloomy namesake.

St Hugh - Saint Hugh's National Primary School

Saint Hugh Our school was originally called Cornagee N.S. but was renamed Saint Hugh’s N.S. in 2007 after the patron saint of Ballinaglera parish. Born in the fifth century  he was known as Beo-Aodh (‘Lively Hugh’) on account of his great missionary...

It gives the surnames Boyd and Bowie.
Means "living flame" or "lively fire", something like that.
Was very common historically iiuc.

Art is a very ancient Irish name.
