Is August a boy or girls name in your opinion?

Love it for my boy due in August and feel like it goes well with my DD who is called Autumn.

If not please throw me some suggestions for other names as struggling 😩

Defo a boy! Lovely name

Apollo365 · 26/02/2024 15:11

As in Augustus

Bergamotte · 26/02/2024 15:15

August is a boy's name.

MrsSamR · 26/02/2024 15:16

It's fine as a name and it is obviously a boy's name but I think it's a bit similar to Autumn for a sibling personally.

oldnorsesaga · 26/02/2024 15:30

August is all boy to me

KirstenBlest · 26/02/2024 15:41

Boy, but is it AUGust like the month or AuGUST like the adjective?

Nicebloomers · 26/02/2024 15:43

Absolutely boy. It is very close to Autumn though, but maybe you don’t mind. I’d go with Augustus nn August or Gus.

Onelife2024 · 26/02/2024 15:58

A boys name to me. Personally I feel it sounds too similar to Autumn. Maybe another summer inspired name -

Ray (like ray of sunshine!)
Cyrus (means sun)
Leo (Star sign for August)
Sampson (means sun)
Sonny

toastofthetown · 26/02/2024 16:24

All boy to me. I love August.

Yokaiwatch · 26/02/2024 16:27

Boys name for sure. It’s a lovely name.

Bluegetaniums · 26/02/2024 17:57

Of course it's a male name!

Augusta or Augustine are female versions

I would say whatever Central European people say, because it's mostly theirs name. I say Aw-gust with maybe accent on first letter. Not native tough.

Notlongtogo2 · 26/02/2024 20:23

Definitely a boys name. Princess Eugenie named her first son August. I have to say I’d never heard of the name until then, but it’s an old name that was around in the 1800’s.
I do think it’s very similar to Autumn but Gus is a nice nickname.

SkaneTos · 26/02/2024 21:37

I think August is a male name.
I think of the Swedish author and playwright August Strindberg (a man) who wrote the play "Miss Julie" (1888).

MaloneMeadow · 26/02/2024 21:41

Definitely a boys name to me! Not really to my personal taste, I wouldn’t use it but it is a lovely name.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 26/02/2024 22:41

Definitely a male name, and a very nice one at that!

earlytwentiesmama · 27/02/2024 08:36

Thanks everyone for your help!

This has definitely helped settle my mind and we do love August and would most probably nn with Gus etc

@Bluegetaniums Augustine is definitely a boys name. As in Saint Augustine Bishop of Hippo. Very very important figure in Christian theology, one of the so called “fathers of Christianity”. He shaped our world.

OP, love August!

Bluegetaniums · 27/02/2024 12:13

I always assumed that Augustine is the feminine version of Augustin.

Like Martine is the feminine version of Martin.

RuthW · 27/02/2024 12:14

It's a boy's name

KirstenBlest · 27/02/2024 16:29

@Bluegetaniums , Saint Augustine was male.

toomanysausages · 27/02/2024 22:55

I really like August for a boy. It's top of my list for DS due end of July (C section so hopefully won't be born in August).

pontipinemum · 28/02/2024 12:20

I like it :) I would think it's a boy name.
