gender unknown but this is our favourite name for girl or boy, yes it would be the nickname

I would either go Frank or Francesca for official name but known as Frankie day to day.
does Frankie work for both male and female?
if you heard Frankie would you assume male or female or is it truly gender neutral?

I have a Francesca known as Frankie.
We do call her Frank for short!! Shes the only one in her class and was in her nursery - boys and girls!

Bloomsdaf · 25/02/2024 19:02

There are 3 male Frankie’s in dc’s reception class, so I would probably assume boy. I do know an adult female Frankie too though. I like it for either sex.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 25/02/2024 19:16

I knew a Frankie 70 years ago, she was great. Kids all had unusual names in her family.

hidinginthegarden · 25/02/2024 19:31

Love it for both! I have a male Frankie but if the baby had been a girl she would have been Frankie / Francesca too!

Onelife2024 · 25/02/2024 19:49

I know both male and female Frankies and love it for both!

toastofthetown · 25/02/2024 19:54

If I saw Frankie written down, I'd assume female. I've met several female Frankies and no males.

BoleynMemories13 · 26/02/2024 15:43

Truly unisex. I've taught one of each and know one more of each. I wouldn't assume either way.

SkaneTos · 26/02/2024 21:29

A good name for both a boy and a girl.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 26/02/2024 22:43

A great name for either! It’s genuinely unisex.

EmmasDilemmas · 26/02/2024 22:49

I love it and agree it’s a lovely name for either a girl or a boy.

YourLocal · 27/02/2024 06:49

Frankie would work for both because it’s gender neutral and if you have a girl it could be Francesca shortened

Josette77 · 27/02/2024 06:50

Obsessed with Frankie for a boy or girl. ❤️

BarbaricPeach · 27/02/2024 06:52

I don't think it's a weird name for a girl. I'd probably assume girl because I know a lot more female Frankies (short for Francesca) than male. There are quite a lot of them in the under 5 crowd around here though (NW England) if that bothers you. My son has two in his nursery "class" and there's several more in the rest of the nursery.

Tatonka · 27/02/2024 06:58

I like it for a girl, not so much for a girl. Same with Charlie

Doingmybest12 · 27/02/2024 07:13

I'd assume girl, wouldn't be too surprised for a boy. Not a fan of Frank as a name itself, so would not be for me for a boy. Don't mind Francesca.

SueBranchers · 27/02/2024 08:08

I adore this name. My friend’s daughter is called Frankie, and she is wonderful. It also links to the singer/songwriter Frank Ocean, who is not only a beautiful singer but also an LGBTQ+ role model. He would be a wonderful person for your child, no matter their gender, to look up to.

TheFluffiestCat · 27/02/2024 20:04

I know more female Frankies than male ones, but I do think it's genuinely unisex.

TheSandgroper · 28/02/2024 08:34

You know, I just like Frances. Though I do know a Francine who is lovely.

TM1979 · 28/02/2024 08:59

Love it for either. Francesca is such a beautiful name too. You could go with Frances either for actual name?

SnookyPook · 28/02/2024 09:08

I knew a female Frankie at Uni and a baby boy Frankie at the moment. Felt it worked well either way. As others have said, a good unisex option.

SomersetTart · 28/02/2024 09:12

My dad was called Frankie. It's a lovely name. When people (especially his dear brother and my mum) called him Frankie it always sounded so warm and loving.

Even though I associate it so much with my old dad it would be equally lovely and pretty for a girl.
