Going off names once pregnant

Has anyone had a name that they’ve liked when not pregnant that they’ve gone off as soon as they found out they were expecting?

I have always liked the name Abigail, but as soon as I got pregnant with DD1 I went off it. Then once I’d had her I really liked the name again. Now expecting DD2 and - inevitably - I have gone off it again.

If this has happened to you, did you consider using the name anyway? Which instinct would you trust - the pregnant instinct or the non-pregnant one?

I wouldn’t consider using it, as I have lots of other names I like, but it’s one of the few that DH likes that hasn’t been done to death (although I know there were a lot of them in the 80s and 90s - one of my concerns is that it’s dated). He thinks a lot of the other options on our list are “meh”!

Yes! My pregnancy vs non pregnancy name tastes are definitely different!

I would trust non-pregnant me more, not influenced by the hormones. Especially in your case where you know you loved it again once you weren't pregnant. I think Abigail is a lovely name by the way, and I was born in the 90s and can't think of any I knew so to me it doesn't feel dated.

I think Abigail is lovely. My sister is an 80s Abigail and it was quite rare then. I think it's peak popularity was late 90s/00s and, even then, it was never a 'one in every class' kind of popularity.

Abigail is a lovely name. Although it was more commonly used in the 90’s / 00’s than now, it’s one of those names that has been proven not to date and will stay popular in the background, imo.

Trust your non-pregnant mind. I considered Velvet for dd whilst pregnant.

I chose my DD first name when I was 10. Went off it when I was pregnant .Used it as a middle name so I did not use it for my 2 other daughters. I regret it seriously to this day .She hates the said name and says she would have changed it .I suppose it is good I didn't use it.

When I was at primary school, I decided that I was never going to have children but if I did and I had a daughter, she was going to be called Laura.

I didn't know any Lauras so probably fell in love with the name after reading the Little House on the Prairie books and watching the show.

For about the next 20 years, I was adamant that I was not having any children but at the back of my mind, my non-existent daughter was always called Laura.

I've got a daughter.

She isn't called Laura.
