Hi. First time posting long time lurker lol. I’m having my 2nd baby in less than 2 weeks and cannot agree on a name.
My dd (Ava) was nameless for a couple of days and I would really like to have 1 or 2 contenders this time, so all help and suggestions are appreciated.
boy name will probably be
Roman James (double-barrelled) surname

girl names I like but other half doesn’t or says they are meh is…..

Cora
Georgia
Mya
Noa

I think max 2 syllables as the surname is double barrelled and don’t want it to be a tongue twister

Thank you in advance x

Mia
Norah
Gianna
Sophia
Lucia
Bianca

MaloneMeadow · 20/02/2024 10:50

Not sure why but Elise is the first one that popped into my head!

I really like Mya from your list but do prefer the Maia spelling. Cora is also quite nice

How about:
Alice
Lara
Charlotte
Emma
Sasha

Onelife2024 · 20/02/2024 10:54

Ava is a lovely name and I love your name choices, particularly Mya (my favourite), Cora and Georgia. Noa is lovely but I would personally avoid it as it’s such a common boys name.

Other ideas -

Erin
Esme
Isla
Freya
Lyra
Iris
Nina
Cleo
Ruby
Layla
Seren
Rosie
Clara
Sadie
Esther
Mabel
Nicole

BoleynMemories13 · 20/02/2024 11:12

Ava and Georgia go the best I think.

Have you considered a different ending? Two 2 syllable names can be a bit samey together when they end in the same sound, especially two names short in length too. For that reason, I don't think Mya, Noa or Cora are right with Ava.

Ava and Ruby
Ava and Lily
Ava and Grace
Ava and Esme
Ava and Poppy
Ava and Sophie
Ava and Lucy
Ava and Edie
Ava and Iris
Ava and Phoebe
Ava and Holly
Ava and Rose
Ava and Zoe
Ava and Millie
Ava and Nell
Ava and Nancy

Mia
Norah
Gianna

Lucia
Bianca

I like Norah other half says its a grannys name. Love gianna sophia and lucia but one of the surnames is Italian (we aren’t itialian) and think it sounds like we are trying to be something we aren’t.

Ava is very pretty. I initially included Cora on my list, but realised it shares the same sound as the popular online Q&A platform Quora.

Ines
Eloise
Scarlett
Celeste
Violet
Nancy
Clara
Sabrina
Noella
Nia

Ah right lol - to be honest I think that Mya would be the most confusing one! I always find it hard to know with Mya as I know some which are pronounced the same as Mia and some which go by Maya/Maia way - definitely a complicated one

I love Cora. Georgia is ok too.
Mya, I know so many children with this name, spelt lots of different ways and pronounced different ways, I find it so confusing,
Noa is beautiful but might get confusing with male Noah’s. What about Nora or Nola?

GuessThatGranny · 20/02/2024 12:53

if you like the a sound at the end then:

Freya
Willa
Julia
Erica

are all good suggestions.

my current favourite is Penelope aka Penny.

Mumofgirls2017 · 20/02/2024 13:37

Oooh I like Cora. Ava and…

mia
ella
rosa
thea
esme
lilah
lily
nora
edie
lara
joni
bella
grace

SloraceHughorn · 20/02/2024 19:56

Love Cora. We had it on our list.

Our long list also had:
Lola
Nina
Enola
Laurel
Rosa
Arwen
Etta
Alba
Ida
Ines
Rose
Robin

If that helps at all!

And my name is Georgia and it's been an absolutely fine name :)

zingally · 21/02/2024 11:10

I think going for another name with an "a" sound on the end is a bit cutesy.

Names that jumped into my head for "going with" Ava:
Sophie
Marcy
Chloe
Sally
Rose
Isabel
Naomi
Megan

Had the same realisation about Quora - Cora. I've always said Quora like Cora but DP thinks it's said like kwora?

They'll get the spelling confused

If you both like Lily then use it. Ava and Roman are both popular. James is very popular as a middle name so it's quite likely that other Romans will be Roman James.

I don’t know another Roman at all so not popular here. Also haven’t met another Ava either. James is a family name so defo will be used as middle name if a boy.
I don’t love lily but could be because I know lots of kids called it.
you're probably right about the spelling part and I never thought of that and it’s putting me off so thank you for pointing it out.

Love a few of your suggestions but unfortunately they are already in the family 😞 on my side and partners there are almost all girls and plenty of them lol so it makes it so difficult.
Georgia is my fav at the miniute. Do you get yours shortened often?

Babies called Roman in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)
Babies called Ava in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)
Babies called Maya in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)*
Babies called Mia in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com) *

  • Maya could be May-a or My-a, Mia could be Mee-a or My-a Mya could be Mya, Maya, Maia, Mia

Roman and Arlo weren't used much until fairly recently but have leapt up in popularity. Rowan and Reuben are also popular, and they could well have the middle name James. It's like the 1980s where a class would have several girls who were Something Louise.

The stats only go up to 2021, so aren't up-to-date.
