Danú as a girl's name?

Danú (or 'Danu' without the accent). What do you think of this as a girl's name? For an Irish girl - it's the name of the mother of all gods and goddesses in Irish mythology. Thanks

Sounds like European yogurt brand or a character from Moon and me

And you sound like someone who hasn't experienced life outside your own parish.

I don't understand this need to denigrate foreign names just because they are not familiar.

GogLais · 04/07/2024 19:20

@OchonAgusOchonOh , if you chose a name that sounds like a popular name (Maeve, Aoife, Orla etc) posters would be very encouraging.

It fits in with some popular or not unknown Welsh names like Begw or Manw.
I think Danu is nice and a bit different.

@GogLais That is exactly my point. Foreign names that are not familiar are denigrated by a certain type of poster. It is a very parochial and small minded attitude.

I know a Danú, she's a young teen, always happy and laughing, a joy to be with so this name represents a lovely girl to me. Beautiful name.

Just seen the original date posted 😆. Baby probably already born, if so, what did you do with the name @Bythelake89
Danú got the thumbs up off me.

LakeIsle48 · 04/07/2024 22:39

I just don't like the sound of the name. There's plenty of other Irish names that sound nicer

OkPedro · 04/07/2024 22:44

I'm Irish and if it is pronounced Dah noo it's a bit too close to Anto I'm sure there are Daniels called Dano sorry op 😆
