Martha.
But I like both names.

FlutteryButterfly · 14/02/2024 22:07

Elizabeth, timeless worh almost endless options.

Martha is awful.

Seadreamers · 14/02/2024 22:08

Elizabeth - it’s classic and timeless, plus lends itself to various nicknames if you wish.

Martha always sounds to me like it’s a nickname, a bit like Sally.

Lantyslee · 14/02/2024 22:14

Elizabeth - my favourite girl's name.

Sundaysunshine21 · 14/02/2024 22:23

Both are underused and timeless and I think either would be a good choice.

I’ve never known an Elizabeth who is known as Elizabeth, it is likely to be shortened so that might be something to consider. All the Marthas I’ve known have been Martha.

Onelife2024 · 14/02/2024 22:34

Both are lovely. Elizabeth is such a timeless classic with so many shortenings. There are a lot of Elizabeth’s around across the whole population, so Martha stands out a little more from the crowd, if that’s important to you? Martha has grown in popularity but is still just outside the top 100. I love how simple and pretty it is, and it suits all ages.

Martha

This - Elizabeth is very elegant
Martha is lumpen

I know a couple of Elizabeths that go by their full name

DramaAlpaca · 15/02/2024 00:00

Elizabeth. It's such a versatile, classic name.

HahaBooHiss · 15/02/2024 07:57

Elizabeth ❤️

Abovethemaincourse · 15/02/2024 08:02

I love the name Martha!!!

I would go with Martha Elizabeth!

NoelJo · 15/02/2024 08:04

Elizabeth is a beautiful name.

MidnightSerenader · 15/02/2024 08:04

I don’t love either, but Elizabeth far outweighs Martha.

Martha clears out chimney plates and does a lot of sweeping and rug beating.

baubletits · 15/02/2024 08:16

Martha sounds very clunky to me, whereas Elizabeth is beautiful, it's my favourite girls name (hence why I used it for DD, so I might be biased 😁)

MarketingCurious · 15/02/2024 08:16

I think Martha has quite an ugly sound to it, unfortunately. Elizabeth is a great classic.

SheilaFentiman · 15/02/2024 08:19

Do you like all the potential shortenings of Elizabeth? Because you won’t be able to pick which one your DD settles on.

Aethelthryth · 15/02/2024 08:21

Elizabeth. Martha, for me, is someone who chooses housework over more interesting things

amz4 · 15/02/2024 08:23

Martha 😊

daisypond · 15/02/2024 09:16

Elizabeth by far.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 15/02/2024 09:24

Elizabeth but I’d shorten it to Libby before people started calling her Liz.

DesertSnow · 15/02/2024 09:30

Martha

CruCru · 15/02/2024 09:54

Both are nice. Elizabeth is my daughter’s middle name - we didn’t use it as a first name because all the Elizabeths I know get called Liz.

If someone shortens Martha to Marth, how much will it annoy you? People will shorten anything.

fightingthedogforadonut · 15/02/2024 09:54

Martha was on my shortlist for a girl. I love it.

Elizabeth also nice - likely to get shortened though.

LadyKenya · 15/02/2024 10:02

Martha is lovely. Elizabeth is okay, but Liz, Lizzie not so.

Marcipex · 15/02/2024 11:14

Elizabeth by a long way.

Martha is very dreary.
